There have been several Philly Steak shops in Plano over the years but for a long time only Fred’s was left. I have occasionally eaten here but not often. Its a simple shop with Philadelphia-themes images on the wall. There were two people behind the counter when I arrived. One took my order and the other just sat there watching a movie for the whole time I was in the restaurant. You give your order at the front, seat yourself, and pick up your own food when your number is called. About half the tables were filled and when looking for a seat I saw that all the other tables were dirty. I had to clean a table myself. The cheesesteak w/banana peppers came with almost no peppers. I can say that it was food. The fries were ok – cool even when I picked them up and not helped by the generic ketchup. Why this is well-frequented I don’t know. I’ve given it a bunch of tries over the years and now I’m done with it.

I got the Bacon Cheeseburger and my son got the double meat Cheesesteak with fries. I was really excited when my burger came out because the bun was toasted to perfection. However upon closer inspection I became a bit discouraged. I ordered extra pickles and onions and NO lettuce and it was swimming in shredded lettuce. I sucked it up and moved on. First bite of the burger was a mouth full of lettuce, tomato and bun. I know there was meat in there because I could see it. Just couldn’t taste it. Didn’t get better. My son was excited about the Philly cheesesteak but said the cheese was so hot he had to wait quite a while to be able to eat it. His bun was soggy. He ended up adding Siracha because it lacked any flavor. Funny because that was pretty much how I would describe my burger. Just bland. That said maybe it was just us because the place was packed and has been there for YEARS. On a side note they serve ketchup that is labeled Fred’s. Pepsi is the soft drink on tap and only sweet tea

Really good, really authentic Philly cheesesteak. This one is authentic and will please those who have eaten the real thing. Nice little cafe in shopping center but the real plus is the quality and authenticity of the product.
