I was happy to see a Peruvian restaurant in Plano. They opened recently on the south ring-road for Collin Creek Mall. That makes five Peruvian restaurant in North Dallas by my count, and this is the most elegant of them, despite being in a out-of-the-way strip mall. It was very nicely decorated, and the apparently have live music some evenings! When I got there for a week-day lunch there were only two other tables, but one had a birthday party of 15 people. Even so I was seated immediately. The server helped with my order and I got an order for an empanada and Pollo Saltado in. The server and manager stopped by a couple of times to check that I was enjoying myself and I thought the service was quite good, especially for a small, new restaurant that had a 15-person table to handle. Before I talk about food there were two downsides. They apparently had an issue with the kitchen because there was a noticeable frying small and to combat that they had the door open. I’m usually not affected by cold, but by the end of the meal I was cold enough to be quite uncomfortable. But this shouldn’t be a problem unless the kitchen keep having problems. Maybe they need better ventilation. Then there was the price. I find $28 for lunch to be high enough that I won’t return unless it is for dinner. I might be different if they had a lunch menu. But this is still a very good restaurant. It looks very elegant and the food is excellent. The empanada (with spiced ground beef and vegetables) was excellent. Perhaps the best I have had in many years. I’d easily come back just for this. The Pollo Saltado was also good. This is usually the first dish I try at a Peruvian restaurant. This version looked better, but wasn’t as spicy as some other restaurants. Perhaps they should have offered a hot sauce on the side. (Pollo Saltado is grilled or stir-fried chicken/beef with tomatoes, onions, and spices served over french frys with rice. It sounds strange, but is excellent!)
