Way back when Plano only had chain restaurants Mango Thai was perhaps the second Thai restaurant in the area. And its lasted maybe 20 years now. Its in a busy strip center near Park and Preston. The inside is nicely decorated. The acoustic tile on the ceiling and partial wall dividing the restaurant keeps the noise down which is welcome. Sadly they still have horrible chairs. They have a low back – providing no back rest, and the back slopes which makes it seem like I’m sliding off the chair. They are also too narrow to be comfortable.Despite being very busy at Christmas-time I was seated and got tea quickly. Very nice service especially for a busy time.I ordered pineapple curry, soup, and salad. (Usually my first time in a Thai restaurant I order panang curry, but this version had broccoli and I didn’t feel like broccoli today.)The salad, with peanut dressing, was outstanding. I would travel a long way to come back just for this salad. Sadly Sharon would not like it because of allergies. Its was a good-sized bowl of soup, 4/5 stars spicy, containing a LOT of chicken. It was a good soup, but the broth wasn’t quite what I expected – some different spices I assume. Plus the chicken was just not quite tender enough.I prefer my spice at about the 5 stars out of 5 level, but I learned not to order that at a new restaurant. A sadly-closed restaurant, Thai Spicy Planet, refused to let me order 5 stars on my first visit. I had to argue with the waitress to get it 4 stars, and the chef himself came out of the kitchen to make sure I wanted it spicy. In that case he was almost right – I had to get a large glass of shaved lemon ice to keep my mouth cool enough to finish the meal. But Mango Thai, like most local asian restaurant, doesn’t push the heat. 4 stars wasn’t quite hot enough, but they had hot sauce that made up for it. As I said, good soup, if not great. The pineapple curry was also good. A large portion with lots of chicken. If this place wasn’t 20-25 minutes drive away I would come back a lot more.
Not really a big fan of Thai food but it was okay. The service was good and the waitress was helpful. I also like the way the restaurant looks. It is a very relaxing place.
Nice Place with Good Thai Food. This Thai restaurant gets dwarfed by the businesses around it. I have been eating in the establishments around it for years and never really noticed this. Inside, the decor is a sleek black. It’s not very big, so it has a cozy feeling. If you are doing take out, walk to the back where the bar is. You can place and pick up your order there. We tried Cashew Chicken and Pepper Garlic Chicken with Brown Rice. Loved em both. Portions were big. My only negative is the way chicken is served. It’s cut in thin large slices that make it difficult to eat by chopsticks and a fork.
