Yatai Ramen is like many of the Ramen houses popping up around here. I had the R5 miso ramen which was good. Also had Charsu Bao which was good however I would have liked some Charsu sauce on it. The one thing that made me rate it lower was that they did not have tea or soda on tap only in cans.

It very good sometimes to step outside your comfort zone. Your favorite pizza or taco may be good but if you won’t try new things you are missing a lot. Sometimes that means you find food that isn’t something you like.In this case I started off base because I don’t much care for noodles, making a Ramen restaurant a challenge. Luckily I had my wife along who does like them, and much of the food comments, and rating, are hers. The NW corner of Park and Coit has gotten many new asian restaurants recently. Yatai is one of them, right next to Natalie’s Bakery (one of the best in Plano). This fairly new place has maybe 20 tables inside. The walls are bare concrete with a few stylized paintings in white making me think of Japanese calligraphy. Also decorating the walls are pages of paper listing menu items in English and katakana and hiragana. The bar is interesting with a little curtain, but the effect is offset by boxes of food items below the bar and columns of plated and bowls on top.The waitstaff was nicely welcoming and we quickly ordered. I got Curry Ramen, and Sharon got Hiyashi Chuga (dry ramen with ham and sprouts). Everything came out quickly and the waitstaff was helpful.Sharon was surprised this dish was served cold, but liked it a lot.She then ordered an appetizer for dessert – Chawanmushi, steamed egg custard (savory) with chicken. She finished the bowl and licked her spoon so she liked it a lot.As I said this isn’t my type of place, but since my wife liked it I’ll probably be back.

Went after steady unrelenting pressure from my college age son. I would probably not have chosen to go here on my own. It was terrific! The service is speedy, friendly and efficient. We ordered the chicken appetizer (tori karaage and the Edamame for starters. Both were awesome. My son got a katsu curry rice plate and I ordered Shrimp Tempura and Niku Gyoza. Everything was terrific but the curry. I tasted it and the flavor was good but it just seemed very heavy for a curry dish. We will go back
