DIY Hot pot with plentiful meats and vegetable options in a half-hearted modern atmosphere. Pay by the plate (around $2-3) for mainly frozen ingredients. Good for a cold day but there are better hot pot options in the neighborhood for the price. 3 people ate for lunch for $55.00.SIGHT: Huge restaurant with outdoor patio, pond, interior long tables and booths.SOUND: Hip hop music playing in the background while sizzling pots of broth on an electronic burner. We had issues with our electronic plate shutting off sporadically that we ended up changing to a gas burner.TOUCH: Clean enough. Looks like a fairly new remodel. The dishes and trays of plastic red plates that the ingredients were brought out on were a bit suspect.SMELL: Opt for the half chicken broth and half beef broth. Good flavor and not overly salty or greasy like some other hot pot places. TASTE: Dipping sauces were key (soy citrus, sesame based, fish sauce based, and thicker black bean fish sauce). When mixed all together, made for a great dipping sauce. Veggies (baby bok choy, snow pea tips, water spinach) were all fresh and clean. Marinated beef had good flavor. Fish tofu, fish balls, shrimp balls were all frozen and took to the broth well. Avoid the fresh shrimp that is overpriced at $4.00 for 4 pieces. Taro and pumpkin wedges were plentiful. Mushroom variety (trumpet, dried shittake, fresh button, etc) was notable. whiskandtell.com
I was impressed very much so by them. I visited them for the first time recently and I was always intrigued because they’re owned by the same people as the highly-rated Zenna restaurant. Zhabuki did NOT disappoint. Expected tasty flavor as Zenna but even more reasonably priced.
Good value and nice atmosphere. Our party of four ate for $40 before tipping. The veggies and meat were fresh and we all enjoyed the flavorful beef and veggie broth. The broth is free and you pay for the meat, veggie, and noodles you get to add in. There are also rice and noodle dishes if you dont want soup. The staff was attentive and kept our drinks full. I would go back to try more of the different seafood, they still have a few things I’ve never tried.
Great food at an affordable price. A lot better than other shabu restaurant I have been to. If you get more ingredients you pay more. Not bad for $1 for veggies, $2 for meat and $3 for seafoods. If you spend $15 for a hotpot, its good enough to fill up stomach for two. We go there every week, sometimes twice each week.
Great place when you’re craving hot pot. Although the place was a bit far, it was well worth the drive. The atmosphere, food, and service was great. The chicken and beef broth is rich in flavor and goes hand in hand with all the sides you throw in it. Gotta love the happy hour and when you tell them you have a birthday, they really surprise you!!
A very different restaurant, starting with a hostess who said I needed exercise when I complained about the distance from handicap parking. Food STRANGE.
So expensive!. The food and service were okay but it’s very expensive! We had 4 adults and spent over $130 only on food (did not order alcohol at all). Definitely not worth it. I’d rather go to little sheep Mongolian hotpot which is down the road that costs $20 per person and it’s all you can eat.
