Excited to try it but sadly disappointed. We went for lunch. I ordered the crab, shrimp and etc boil. About $30 including drinks and etc for lunch. Took forever to come out even though the place was almost empty. The shrimp came with heads on. Not a big deal but they squirted juice every time you snapped off a head and it went everywhere. Crab had been frozen and was impossible to get out of the shell because it stuck to it. My friend got fried shrimp and she wasnt any happier. We wont go back
Definitely a different experience… Great, but different. My boyfriend and I are nuts for places that serve crab legs which is what drew us to this place. Its a little difficult to find the entrance since the whole complex looks like Chinese restaurants. Inside, we waiting a few minutes to be seated but after getting strange looks from the other patrons and being ignored by the staff multiple times, we finally saw the order here sign at the bar. Another review noted a single waitress but I guess theyve done away with that for the initial ordering experience. We ordered 3 lbs of relatively inexpensive crab legs (tried the spicy and the medium), fri d pickles, and margaritas. She asked if we wanted the margaritas on the rocks and we said yes. She proceeded to give us frozen margaritas from a machine. We shrugged at each other and went to our table. Maybe she doesnt know what on the rocks really means, or maybe they dont serve their margaritas that way. No matter, the frozen margaritas were delicious and as a light weight drinker, they definitely turned on the happy lol. The 3 lbs of crab (3 orders/1 lb each) were delivered really quickly and made us feel like every other place weve been has been ripping us off on the amount they consider to be 1 lb of crab. More likely though, Fish N Tails doesnt weigh the crab and heaps on the clusters. Beautiful!!! We were ecstatic to say the least. The crab legs are saturated in seasoning which has its ups and downs but they do offer gloves if youd like. Not only were the crab legs plentiful but they were pretty tasty as well. My favorite part of the experience was the fried pickles which Ive found ordinarily come in small slices. This place serves long wedges and they are Amazing! Best fried pickles Ive ever had, and I try them every place I go that will serve them.Downside: There are waitresses but I think theyre multi-hatted employees. Also the cooks, I think, will deliver in a lot of cases. We returned to the bar to get more margaritas after about 35 minutes at the table without anyone checking in. We were there digging into these spicy crabs for about an hour before anyone stopped by to see if we need water or anything. Also theres only one toilet for women, so if the place gets crowded theres going to be a decent wait.Overall, I enjoyed the place and will definitely return the next time Im in the area.
Do you like fried catfish? Shrimp? Oysters? This is the place, all made fresh and to order so cool your heels while they make it.If you enjoy it, order the ceviche appetizer: absolutely fresh, served with homemade tortilla chips, lots of limes and is to say the least absolutely delicious. Big enough to be your primary meal too.I don’t like the fact that you can’t save yourself any fountain drinks, but the staff are very friendly and helpful.Beer and margaritas happy hour every day too. Come and enjoy.
An Oyster Bar. Reading the reviews on this location is what drew us there for dinner. I should have read everything more closely. This is an oyster bar. The restaurant/bar is located in old downtown Richardson in a space at the end of a Chines restaurant and shopping complex. It is actually hard to see from the street. There is an outside patio. You go to the counter and order. I ordered the 12 fried oysters and onion rings and my spouse ordered the shrimp and onion ring basket. The oysters were $12.95 and from the reviews I assumed the oysters would be outstanding. Sorry that was not the case. I got 10 pies of oysters delivered to my table. Seven of those were actually oysters about 2 inches long and three appeared to be cuts of globs from cooking as there was little of not oysters in those the pieces of breading. The total count for all of this was 10 and NOT 12 as the menu showed. The oysters had a greasy smell and taste and were far from being the best I have eaten. The onion rings should have been removed form cooking a long time before they were since they came out hard and crispy. The shrimp had a old grease smell and taste and while eatable were in the same category as the oysters.I counted 10 serving trays going to the outside patio while we were dining and nine of those were fresh oysters on the half shell. Perhaps this is where we missed the boat. It must have been the fresh oysters that everyone was raving about. There was one waitress for the entire restaurant and she took orders at the counter , retrieved the food from the kitchen and delivers it to the table. She was so busy that she seldom had time to check on any of the tables. We just had water to drink and not once did she return to our table to check on the food or drinks. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is more along the lines of a bar with tables sitting on a concrete floor.I think there are better oysters plates to be found.
