This is an old school southern comfort restaurant: all fried or smothered (or both) good basic home cooking in giant portions and reasonable prices.Old atmosphere, waitstaff and hokey gimmicky looking surroundings at to the effect.Staff are attentive, food is ok, salads are huge, grilled chicken is average, meatloaf is uninspired, overall very average.
Was not happy with my experience at the bean tonight — I have had Bariatric surgery (with a card to prove that I’ve had it)…I requested a kids meal because I am physically not able to eat a full meal and they flat out told me no before I could get the words out of my mouth. Very rude!! The manager came out and said he just won’t do it because that’s the way he’s been instructed. I’m quite certain that Debbie the owner would have absolutely no problem if I had a kids meal–since she is actually a family friend. The whole night was ruined because of the way the whole thing went down!! Again–very rude!! Then the food came- quite promptly I may add–but it wasn’t hot so that was pouring salt in the wound! I’m floored about what went down tonight at the string bean….it’s very u like them. I have to say Sam the manager–has some serious customer service attendance to learn. He certainly does not know how to take are of a customer!!And btw….I have had Bariatric surgery 9 Yrs ago and not one time EVER, have I been turned down to have a kids meal at ANY restaurant – ever!!! Very disappointing. Won’t be going back there…and that’s a shame cause I usually enjoy going there !!
Very good home cooking. I really like the Friday chicken and dumplings special and the sweet potato casserole is amazing. I recommend this for lunch or dinner.
Overall the food was pretty good, they had a hard time catering to my mom’s dietary restrictions (no sauces, spreads, too much sugar or fat) but did their best with what they had. It’s a nice cozy family restaurant and the atmosphere was great as well as our waitress. I would recommend it if you are looking for comfort food and are not on a diet!
Not great.. We chose this resturant based on previous positive reviews. The food was not to our liking, food taisted out of a box. Our server was extreamly SLOW, our lunch took over an hour. We will not return.
Great down home food. Staff very warm and friendly. Highly recommend!
