Small Neighborhood Chinese Restaurant. This chinese restaurant has been at this location for a great many years. It is a small neighborhood chinese restaurant with the usual chinese menu. We ordered lunch here yesterday. I ordered the beef and green peppers with white rice and hot and sour soup. The soup was actually very good. Flavorable and hot and spicy just like I like. The beef and green peppers were okay but not anything special. There were a lot of green peppers on the plate and the peppers were not as crisp as I would like and the beef while have a dark brown sauce was good it was lacking something. Finished with a fortune cookie. My spouce had the chicken and cashews and that dish was also without anything special when it came to the sauce and flavor. There was lots of white chicken on the plate. She had the wonton soup whcih was good but not outstanding. We both had an egg roll. We have good lunch just not one that one would rememebr for a long time. The service here is excellent and appears to be a family operation. There is a small bar in the back. Some people came by for take out service.
Good find for those craving chinese!. Great place with decent prices on lunch specials, portions big enough for sharing. It’s our family’s go-to for Chinese food!
Good no frills Chinese family joint. Why is it so hard to find a good Chinese restaurant in Dallas? Plenty of fusion & trendy stuff, but sometimes Dallas is too frilly for an old fashioned basic. That’s how I would describe Tong’s.The wonton soup was very flavorful and the portion was just right not to fill you up and spoil your apetite for entrees. It was served very hot too.The Kung Pao Shrimp was not good and I would not order this again here. The dish was very scant on veggies and peanuts. The sauce was inky black and just didn’t taste like what I know as Kung Pao. But the amount of shrimp was extremely generous and I had plenty to share. My husband likes staples and ordered the chicken fried rice. It was very simple and very tasty. He was happy. We also tried shrimp fried rice and ditto on that dish. How can you mess this up really?I will definitely go back and am happy to see a wide range of options of traditional Chinese food, eat in or take out, nothing trendy, nothing fancy, nothing over Westernized.
This is an all kung fu fighters all the time joint. If you are a round eye and walk in there they will look @ you like they think you are delivering a package or something. The food is good too. Some complain aboot a quality lapse since the old timer bolted and I will not argue that point but it is STILL better than most chinee choke and puke buffets that blight north Texas! Vegas
It’s Back. Just had the cold noodles at Tong’s and THEY ARE BACK!!! I know they changed owners and when I ate there right after the change, it was not good. Thought I would give them another try and the cold dan dan noodles are AWESOME….just like I remember!!!So, give them another try. I also had the lemon chicken which was great and spring rolls…..they were fab as well!!!
NEW OWNERS- NOT AS GOOD. I have eaten for years at Tong’s and loved it. BUT when Papa sold it , it has not been the same. Hot and sour soup was the best anywhere, but not so now. Same with Dan Dan sauce. I notice that when I have been there still hoping for improvement, the crowds are just not there as they were before. So sad. It was once of my favorites.
What a difference. I grew up in the area eating at Tong’s at least four times a week. I passed through Dallas in November and was really disappointed in the food. I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles to go and when we were on the interstate I realized they just heated up their cold noodles with sesame sauce. Maybe they are having to do this to more Americanize the food. All of the other items were less authentic than fifteen years ago.
