  An authentic Irish pub is often a great treat, not just for the beer and food, but also for the atmosphere. A nearby pub that is Irish in nature but also includes elements of other eateries is Clancys Pub, in Richmond, Texas. Clancys Pub is Irish in name, but its also a little bit sports bar and a little bit American restaurant. The interior consists of one large dining room with a side room, which appears to be used for private parties. There is no outdoor patio or outdoor seating. They have televisions for sports viewing, background music, plus a full service bar with about 20 beers on tap. The dcor emphasizes the color green, as expected, with flags and a few other knick knacks on the walls.Food at Clancys pub is divided into common categories like appetizers, soups/salads, sandwiches, dinner entrees, and kids menu options. They have some more authentic Irish fare but I wasnt feeling terribly adventurous on my first visit, so I selected one of the burgers, the Clancy. Its a one- third pound Angus beef burger topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, mayo, mustard, and bacon plus your choice of one of three different cheeses. I liked my burger and found it well- prepared and good tasting, from the meat to the bun. Next time, I might go with the chicken fried steak, shepherds pie, or one of the other more traditional Irish food dishes, but I like my burger and would recommend it.All of the food at Clancys Pub is prepared fresh, never frozen, so guests are advised that it could take a little longer than usual to get served. We didnt really mind waiting, and the beer selection is largely to thank. They have about 22 taps of craft beer, with local brew and nationally known favorites. This isnt a huge number, but they continuously rotate them and I was able to find several I hadnt tried before. This made the wait for our food a non- issue. It also helped that the wait staff was so friendly and I should also make mention of the cleanliness, which was easily better than that of most restaurants. Irish pubs are a fun place to spend an evening and while Clancys Pub isnt one- hundred percent on board with the Irish theme, it is close enough that most will not care. If you want more beer, Texian Brewing is right down the road and Clancys makes a very nice stopover before or after a visit. Its a noteworthy place for food and drink in this southwest Houston suburb. greatbeernow.com
