Houstonians who remember Felix will love Larry’s. Previous reviews by Cameron & Ashley are right on the money. Some of the others just don’t get it. The Tex Mex at Larry’s is virtually identical to Felix, a Houston instituion for decades (and Marvin Zindler’s favorite Mexican restaurant)! Larry used to work at Felix back in the day and has duplicated Felix’s iconic chili con queso–that’s why Ashley is crazy about Larry’s cheese enchiladas (that same UNIQUE queso fills the cheese enchiladas). This is queso like no other! The guy who said it tastes like melted Velvetta is a culinary idiot. So different is Felix/Larry’s queso, that the Houston Chronicle has, on more than one occassion, printed the recipe for Felix Chili Con Queso. I’ve made it many times (good, but not as good as the original) and there is NO Velvetta. Among other things, there is grated American cheese and flour. The entire menu at Larry’s is the next best thing to the late, great Felix. Larry’s offers up retro Tex Mex, Houston-style. And that’s a good thing!

Love it!. This place reminds me of Felix’s at Westheimer/Montrose… and this is a good thing! With it’s authentic Tex Mex decor and deep fried puffy tacos I am in heaven! The service here is top-notch as well.
Horrible. Wolf brand chili over velveta cheese. Don’t waste your time or money.
