Not For Dinner. For an event at the venue they were great. I’ve only been for dinner about five times and it’s more ‘miss’ than ‘hit’. I’ve had the same watered down soup as described in other posts. I’ve ordered spinach dip that came out cold, the cheese on top wasn’t even slightly melted. Ive ordered chocolate pie and the crust was greasy..? Weird…I do love the melba toast and the fruit salad but I need more to come back.
Food quality inconsistent, but when it’s good, it’s great! Spinach salad on Max Out sandwich often leaves bread soggy when left too long to deliver. Soup sonetimes tastes watered down. I have always had horrid service both in wait times and rude, uncouth, brusque staff. The one time I had them cater an event it was exceptional. Beautiful displays and delicious food.
Every time I come back I feel like I’m banging my head against the wall. Service isn’t good but the owner leaves nasty notes for the employees at the cash register so I assume the turnover is high. If you order cheese soup at the end of the day it is watery. At lunch it is great. There were three tables of diners in the restaurant and I still had to wait at the counter for five minutes. My order of pre made items – quiche and soup – took twenty minutes to prepare. The only time that used them for catering the order was 45 minutes late so I had to set up after the reception had started. The food is good but it’s not worth the hassle.
Dinner Take Out. Generally I like Sandy’s but the last two times I’ve been there for takeoutthey have forgotten something in the order, this time was no different. I often get the spinach salad,so I know how the dressing is suppose to taste. This time it was clear that something had beenleft out of the dressing, it tasted like water so I called them to tell them. Itruined the salad and I thew away 7.50. Disappointing……
Real Food. The menu is a little limited, but what they do have is all great. If you don’t like real food that is fresh and made with real ingredients then you won’t like Sandy McGee’s, but if you like to be able to identify what you are putting in your body then Sandy McGee’s is the place. If I could only eat at one restaurant in Richmond for the rest of my life it would be Sandy McGee’s. Unfortunately real food comes at a price. It won’t break the bank, but you can expect to spend about $13 per adult.
I love this place. It does get packed but that just means the food is good!
We walked in on a Saturday evening and had no problem getting a table. Broccoli – Cheese soup was good. Grilled southwest chicken salad was very good as was the shrimp po boy. Great atmosphere and good service. Desserts looked good but we passed.
