This place came recommended by a co-worker, so I had high hopes. However, it really didn’t live up to the hype for me. The portions were big (I even ordered the small plate), and were served hot however it was just pretty average in flavor. Overall I don’t think I would go back there. The breakdown is below:Location: It is in a pretty old looking part of Texarkana. The building looks like an old rustic type steakhouse (I’ve heard it used to be a Bonanza steakhouse in the 70’s). Seemed very dated, but decently clean. Watch out for pot holes in the parking lot! There are some really deep ones that could possibly damage your car. They really need to be fixed.Food:The meatloaf had a good texture to it. It wasn’t overly dense or loose. Well formed. It had green peppers and onions in it, however they didn’t really lend a great flavor to the meat. The sauce on top was basically barely thickened ketchup. It wasn’t caramelized or thickened well. Just tasted like ketchup. Not the worst meatloaf, but certainly not the best.Mac N Cheese: This is not baked type mac n cheese. It was slightly overcooked pasta with a very runny cheese type sauce that while had a decent flavor it was a bit too salty. Overall it wasn’t very appealing.Pintos: They were cooked well, however they didn’t have much flavor. It could have really benefited from some ham hock, fatback or maybe some onions while cooking.Cornbread: Not bad really. Value: The meat, 2 veg, cornbread and drink came to a little over $11.00. It was a decent amount of food, but the quality wasn’t exactly on par with what I would have hoped.Service: It was ok. Nothing to really write home about. The server did not offer to refill my drink until I was already done with my meal. It was pretty slow. She could have been a bit more attentive. Overall I don’t think I will return. It wasn’t horrible or bad, just nothing to really make me say, hey I wanna go back here. For the flavor of the food, I felt it was overpriced.
Love, Love, Love this place!. The staff is always very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food is delicious. I’ve never had anything that I didn’t like. You should definitely try the Chicken and Dressing. Yum!
