Very nice steak house. Well worth the stop. Steak was tender , well seasoned. Very good place to get a steak.Passing through.
Dakotas is special. The food is outstanding and what really is wonderful is the atmosphere. Everyone is inviting…friendly..professional. .whether you are by yourself or in a group, Dakotas is a wonderful place to enjoy wonderful food and an inviting atmosphere!
Great Start Then Disappointing. We had heard good things about Dakotas and decided to visit for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere is nice and quiet with a very attractive bar. The fresh bread is the best we have sampled anywhere and the pre-dinner drinks were made to perfection. The establishement was not busy.We ordered ceviche and it was an extremely weak effort. The shrimp was obviously the small frozen variety you can buy from any frozen foods section of your local grocery story. The sauce was watery, probably because of the use of frozen shrimp and it lacked any sort of zip or spice. It was served with crackers, definately not something I would link to an ethnic dish like ceviche, more appropriate with shrimp cocktail. Overlooking this we moved to our entrees. We had the filet Oscar style and lamb chops, both ordered medium rare. The presentation was nice, with twice baked potatoe and carrots on the lamb chops and garlic mashed with carrots on the filet. The filet was very rare, not what was ordered, and the Oscar style consisted of lump crab meat and very little garlic/butter sauce, maybe a teaspoon. The lamb chops were completely inedible as presented. They were seared on the outside and completely raw on the inside. In fact the center of each chop was cold. They had to be returned and a completely new set of chops was presented. They were completely uninspiring. The mint sauce was good, however the lamb was completely unseasoned and had virtually no taste if it were not for the accompanying sauce. Not a good effort at all. The filet was the same. Except for the Oscar style, the beef was not seasoned. Neither item had a hint of salt, pepper, or any other seasoning. They were complete devoid of any flavor. We finished with desert sharing a creme brulee. It was tiny, served in a typical style dish but to our surprise, an extremely shallow one. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and returned as often as anyone could ask for. She was apologetic about the lamb chops and remedied the problem quickly, however she could not remedy their preparation. Overall the experience was very disappointing. We are not the kind of people who make big problems out of small issues. We go out and expect our dining experience to be an event and we are often times extremely satisfied. I am not sure if we will return to Dakotas.
Favorite place for lunch & happy hour!. I think Dakotas is one of the more under-rated places for lunch in Tyler. Not that their dinner options aren’t equally as good, but I just love the quiet environment and the wide array of menu options that they have. I mean you can’t get much better than their ceasar salad, tomato cheese soup, and all of their sandwiches. The other good thing is you can actually have a conversation with who you are eating with and not be stuck in a loud place where you can’t hear half of what people are saying. They also have a great happy hour with yummy speciality cocktails that you can’t find other places! 🙂
GREAT food for Tyler, TX!. I just had the best calamari and bruschetta that I’ve ever eaten, even at an italian restaurant. This is a prime steak house serving really well cooked food of all kinds. I talked to the chef about where they get their meat, and He told me the steaks are world class and come from the same place that many of the best steakhouses in Dallas and other big cities get their beef: Stockyards Packing in Chciago. Probably the only USDA prime beef in or near Tyler. Best fresh, home baked bread in town for sure! God I wish I knew they made their bread.
Great sea bass and filet!. My son and I went here to celebrate his college graduation. It was our first time. Boy was I impressed by this place! The Sea Bass was outstanding and the accompanying rice was the best Iv’e had in years. My son ordered a filet with scalloped Au Gratin potatoes. The steak was absolutely wonderful! They say they get their beef from Chicago and it is only the place around here that has true USDA prime beef, and I believe it! The service was very professional and knowledgeable, and provided excellent service.
Best Steaks in Tyler. I’ve enjoyed Dakotas many, many times and frequently taken groups there. The food is always great, and the wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. When Fiori’s closed, the best menu items were added to Dakota’s menu enhancing the offerings.
