2015 update Went back with…. 2015 update Went back with the ol lady to see if the food/ service/ portions had gotten better. Happy to report that service was much more attentive and that the food portions seemed to be back on par with what they use to serve at their old restaurants. At least as far as the enchiladas and guacamole are concerned. Have yet to see if they are still serving about only 1/2 a chicken breast for fajitas. I’ll order these next time in. Btw, their cheese enchiladas with chili are the best in town.02 Mar, 2014Relieved that the menu from the original El Charro(s) survived this new incarnation of El Charro on the Ridge. However, disappointed in the atmosphere (or lack there of) – their bar is cool, but the dining layout sucks -and the teeny – tiny portions being served as entrees. They should really call them appetizers. Prices are 25% higher than the original El Charro’s, expected at this new South Tyler address, but when you shell out 14 bucks for chicken fajitas you expect to receive more than just a fee strips of meat. And what the hell do peppers and onions cost? Pitiful. As for the guacamole? Still the best in town, but better order three of em if you are expecting the same amount you woulda received at the 5th Street location. Heard they might reopen the Erwin location. I prey they do. If you gotta have El Charros, order to go.

The Flautas and Rasberry Margaritas Are Excellent. I ordered the shredded chicken one with a side of guacamole, and they were very tasty. Will get them again, raspberry margarita was made exactly the way I love them.

Not consistent at all. For the first 5-10 minutes we had no idea who our server was– and it wasn’t that busy. Ordered a beer and brought they brought the wrong one. Ordered our meal, and brought the wrong meal. We needed to leave so we said we would eat it anyway. They charged us for the meal we ate but didn’t order and it cost more then what we ordered. The entire experience just fell apart

Terrible , awful, service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wouldnt not come back if I was reincardinated and force by dark vader to walk through the door and just turn around ….. I would have to choose to die all over again

Excellent food. We love El Charro on the Ridge, but we were huge fans of the original El Charro. Although there was a rough start, that was quickly resolved and I find the service fast and efficient, the food is excellent, and served as Mexican food should be–hot (heat). I especially love the tamales. They are what I am used to rather than pulled pork. The servings are plentiful and usually we share an entree. Our servers always have anticipated refills and our glasses are never empty, nor our chip basket empty. We eat there at least once a week.

Awesome food and service. Went tonight for Valentine’s day and it was busy but they seated us right away. Our server was Tulio. He was excellent. Food was fantastic. Prices were not too high either. We will be back.
