The Original Burrito Assembly Line Place?. I have no idea if my Title statement is true, but it is true for me – Freebird’s was the first Subway style place for burritos that I was ever aware of. Then later I became aware of Chipotle, Salsarita’s, and Moe’s. Freebird’s was only to be found in or around large cities, which I don’t visit too much, so I only ate there a few times over the last decade. The other 3 burrito chains all came to East Texas first. None seemed to taste as good to me as what I remembered Freebird’s tasting. It finally came to Tyler (and I believe I read that Longview is to follow) and I checked it out. Still great. Just like with these ‘gourmet’ burger chains that have come here, the meals end up being more than I really want to pay on a normal basis, but they are generally good when I go. One thing I seem to notice with the other 3 burrito chains – they all seem to be too salty to me. I have never thought this about Freebird’s. I would definitely eat here time to time if it was closer.
