Chicken Fried Burger!!!. I had someone bringing me something back from The Diner, so I checked out their menu and saw a Chicken Fried Burger. Not only is the hamburger patty chicken fried, but they fry every normal item that is typically featured on a burger with the exception of lettuce – onion ring, fried green tomato, fried pickle and chicken fried bacon! I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Thank goodness their batter is great. The onion rings are especially top notch. Most people probably don’t know about David Beard’s Catfish having onion rings*, but they are very good, and The Diner’s reminded me a lot of theirs. I think there were about 2 of each item on the burger. I don’t know of anyone else doing a similar burger around here, but this is very good and worth checking out if you want to try a unique item. When I go to Tyler I usually like to try something I’ve never had before, but I’m probably going to have to get The Diner’s Chicken Fried Burger again in the near future.*re: David Beard’s Catfish/onion rings – I know you can order onion rings at the original location in Ore City, but I’m not sure about the various King locations.
Excellent. Clean, quality food, great taste and excellent menu providing for diverse tastes.
Not that great. I’ve been to the Diner several times now and have been thoroughly underwhelmed. The wait is usually too long, the service is usually sub-par, the food is normally bland, and the last time my coffee was full of grains. I have friends who swear by this place so I have given The Diner its fair share of chances, but after the most recent visit I am removing them for my restaurant rotation.
In Tyler from Dallas visiting friends went to the Diner for breakfast. Food was wrong, cold and service was clearly not there. I feel sorry for Tylerites that have to experience this. Understand there not many other choices for a really good food in the mornings. Don’t waste your time or money on this one.
