I have only been once. We were in a group of five. The food was wonderful and the service matched. We had a very leisurely meal with appetizers and desert. Our group enjoyed a quiet pleasant time. I did notice there were very few other dinners. I could see a high noise level if there were a room full of diners. It is not cheap but the food merits the price. I recommend it and intend to return again and again.
Visited this new Tyler spot on a busy Friday night. We were looking forward to the highly touted (by friends) squash soup) but when we ordered, (early in the evening, before seven pm) we were disappointed to discover that the kitchen had run out. The salad was nice, an interesting mixture of romaine, arugula and fennel, with sesame sprinkled avocado slices. Ordered a small, $18.00 pizza, and overly salted, sparse pieces of diced, barely edible duck, which other than cheese was the only topping). The crust, from the imported brick oven was the only redeeming value, but was undercooked and soggy in the middle, causing the two toppings to slide completely off when a piece was lifted from the board, which thus required being eaten with a fork, rather than traditional in hand style. My friend’s shell fish was only so so; the odd and a bit off mixture of spice was something reminiscent of an unsettling dish he had been served in a cafe in Europe, and was adequate but unexpected though the pasta, obviously in house, was interesting. In the hit or miss category, the ambiance is definitely a miss. The owner is obviously going for high end, and targeting the fading hipster crowd, but the set up is much more akin to the Chipotle across the mall parking lot, (think high, bare, tables with stools in the middle of the building rather than French Laundry ambiance), which does not live up to the higher entree prices ($20.00 to $30.00 ish). Surprised that one does not order at the counter. Bar, but no wine list, so ended up paying $20.00 for two mediocre , and stingily filled glasses of house cab, when had a wine list been available we would have willingly have ordered a wine that we know and love for 30 to 40, rather than a barely palatable unknown. At the end of the evening presented with and paid another (higher) but similar bill of another diner. Issue was supposedly remedied by our earnest and dedicated but well overworked waitress but we waited over 20 minutes for a visit from the manager (which never came) for an explanation and assurance that we did not pay two tabs. Returned to VIllaggio when a perusal of our bank account confirmed two charges but no refund of the errant charge; manager was unwilling to accept accountably for the mistake or to present proof to the contrary of double billing but just advised to wait and see if a refund was present by the next working day, (three days following). Overall, completely unimpressed. Predict less than a year in business.Visited August 2015
