From the Chicken and Waffles to the Fried Mushrooms and grilled chicken tenders, the whole crew loved Slim Chickens. The Smokey Cheddar Wrap was awesome. The kids loved the chicken tenders with honey BBQ sauce. I had the Chicken and Waffles…it was a waffle in the shape of the state of Texas with three tenders, butter, and syrup! Delicious! The place was clean and had tons of TVs to keep an eye March Madness.
In the Wide World of Chicken Strips there is a new playa! Welcome Slim Chickens! Serving both fried and grilled chicken breast strips, they have a few different things going on up their sleeves that set them apart fro the other fast casual chains. First, they have about twenty different dipping sauces varying in different levels of heat and flavor. You want chicken wings? They got them too! That along with salads, chicken and waffles and a mixed dessert that comes in a large Mason jar that is fit for two.My grilled chicken strips were of decent size (see photo) and were a nice change of pace from the fried. The inferno sauce was just that–hot! It will not be for most people, but was probably at the upper limit of what I like. It is not as hot as the atomic sauce at Wingstop, but quite close. Their fries are not crisp, but thankfully not waterlogged with grease. They are the default side. If you do not request one of their other sides (okra, fried pickles et al.) you will get the fries. I used the sauce on them as well. I also had their honey mustard sauce which was very good. It really balanced the red inferno sauce. The couple wedges of Texas toast were also welcome to bring down the heat of that delectable sauce. They have a couple of iced tea options which were particularly nice. In addition to the regular sweetened and unsweetened versions, they also were supported by a sweetened raspberry and a sweetened peach version. The former was excellent with just enough sweetness, but not overdone. I do not like the ice that they use though. It is shaved ice, which is wonderful for snow cones and the like, but dreadful for drinks. On two different occasions I used the ice, and by the time I added my drink, it had practically all dissolved, watering down my tea.I am very interested in the Mason Jar dessert. The latest are pumpkin pie cheesecake and pecan pie. There is not really a description of what else goes into these concoctions, but it looks like maybe chocolate chips and whipped cream among some other things. It will have to wait until next time though, because my meal was quite hearty. This is the first Slim Chickens in Tarrant County, although more are to come. The next one coming will be in Frisco in 2016. I thought the food was good and would return if I am in this area.
Interesting take on a Chicken restaurant. Most closely similar to Raising Cane’s as they feature Chicken Strips, but Slim Chicken’s also offers Wings, Wraps and Chicken & Waffles. The Chicken is pretty good and so are the Fries. Probably a little on the high side for the portion, but fast service, and good atmosphere which includes a couple of TVs for watching sports. diningoutdfw.com
