I always take it as a sign of authenticity when I walk into a Latin restaurant and everyone in the place, from back of house to customers, is speaking Spanish. That’s what happened at Rivera’s and my theory was once again proven correct. The salsa was delicious, the service was prompt and friendly, and the food was terrific! They are known for their papusas so do yourself a favor and order them when you go. I’ve had papusas elsewhere and they didn’t hold a candle to Rivera’s. Fantastic mom and pop place! parymoppins.net

My first time; not my last time. I hate over-salted food. So I was surprised to read that another diner had gotten over-salted food at Rivera’s. Today was my first time eating at Rivera’s, and my food was all perfectly seasoned. The salsa was very good, with just the right amount of heat. My chicken nachos were also very good, as was my mixed plate. The pupusas tasted great, the platano was excellent (nice caramelization), and the corn tamal was also very good (although it could have been a tiny little bit warmer). On the way out, I called a friend to recommend it, and I will definitely return. UPDATE: No change! I continue to frequent this place because everything that I said above has remained true. [I have gotten overcharged two or three times (out of many dozens of visits), and each time by the same waitress; the next time, I will approach the manager; just watch your bill.]

Outstanding Salvadoran food. With all the Mexican food in the area- we wanted to try Salvadoran fare. This place is a Mom and Pop restaurant, clean and basic with outstanding Salvadoran food. (haven’t tried their Mexican food as that is not why we go there.) The Papusas are delicious and served with the slightly spicy, oregano seasoned shredded cabbage and tomato toppings. Ditto the fried plantains; they are served hot right out of the skillet- slightly carmelized from the cooking. They are delicious and their slightly sweet nature is a nice balance with the papusas. The pastelito is a delicious Salvadoran empanada. The combination plates are very filling and several dishes are served with cassava- a fried root very similar to thick, hand cut fries. It’s all delicious and worth stopping and trying. the first time we went we didn’t know anything about Salvadoran food and asked for help in ordering. The staff is friendly, helpful and explains the different dishes. Prices are very reasonable- don’t fill up on chips while waiting for your order. Good service. Pay at the cash register when you’re ready.

Will not go back. 5/23/2012 Ok first SALTY is the word that comes to mind. The salsa would have been nice if it was not sooo salty. The chips were nice and thin. The crispy tacos were good but had a chunk of not completely done meat (pink in the center). The mexican tamale was small and covered in gravy the salvadorian tamale was really good my son said. The carne guisada was ok per my husband. My mom’s chicken suiza enchiladas were nicely flavored but had some seriously HUGE chunks of chicken. Not very uniform.Ok MY caldo de res was kinda ok but there was a hard stringy thing, the potato or whatever was old and tough, the carott was ok and the squash was too. The meat was very tender. The handmade corn tortillas were doughy and the opposite of the salsa. No salt what so ever.So I will not be back. Staff was very nice though.
