Was skeptical the first time I saw the place as it was fairly empty, Only 3 tables were occupied. However I’ve been here enough that I can tell you that the staff when its busy are on point and whether its busy or not are pretty friendly. However they can be slow when business is slow. As for the food, well first the bad. Onion rings, they suck. no sugar coating it, as its just flavorless. The Pizza rolls are pretty good, but the pizza itself is just passable (i’m a bit of a pizza snob again and judge pizza by NYC standards, Its actually better than most of the other local pizza joints) and they do sell them by the slice on Tuesdays. Also on Tuesday they have a never ending spaghetti special. Can’t really recommend it as the pasta no matter what I said always comes out over cooked, never al dente. I really hate mushy spaghetti noodles. However the meatballs are pretty good, and because of this, what I do recommend here are the meatball sliders and the lasagna. Now for the Good! The Meatballs have an entire fresh basil leaf and fresh mozzarella just melted on top of each one and the combination transforms their meatball into something amazing. Its also served with some of the crispiest fries I’ve ever had. The lasagna is basically a pasta pie in a great way. Just a good hearty flavorful lasagna. Mondays here is chicken wing day special at 75 cents a wing. I love the buffalo lemon pepper and the garlic Parmesan. I’m also fond of the mango habanero, Unfortunately the habanero part falls short and I actually find the buffalo lemon pepper spicier than the MH. Oh one last thing about the wings here, grab the teriyaki flavored ones, but take it home and go grab some fried rice (the closest good place for it is Spicy Ginger down Bandera towards Walmart just past Guilbeau where there’s a couple of Banks). Not the healthiest pairing but man oh man are they good together.
This is the absolute best pizza place in San Antonio. The menu from top to bottom in tremendous. No one, and I mean no one makes pizza rolls like Dave, the owner does. They are unreal and he serves them with homemade pizza sauce or homemade ranch dressing. The wings are also fantastic, we have tried most of the flavors and have never been disappointed. No one makes a calzone like these guys, great toppings and plenty of them in a perfectly baked pastry. The pizza is phenomenal, either gourmet or build your own, you absolutely cannot go wrong. The crust is wonderful and the toppings are the best quality. Halftime’s daily specials cannot be beat, and the staff is one of the best that I have ever had take care of me in a restaurant. The attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant is the best and every visit to Halftime Pizza is a terrific and pleasurable experience.
New ownership, simple menu for now, great fresh food, friendly staff. Owner came by each table to introduce and promote. Nice to have a small place close to home that is clean with good fresh food.
