Visited this far west side taqueria today for some Mexican breakfast. Three things I normally consider for a place like this to have good Mexican breakfast are: flavorful tortillas, good beans, and fresh and tasty salsas and ranchera sauce. Everything else to me is understood to fluctuate depending on the cooks or the busyness of the day. Sometimes the eggs might be overcooked, the coffee might be burnt or weak, or the barbacoa might be a little greasy or fatty. I get that, but the tortillas, beans, and salsas need to be on point. It was a slow Thursday morning when I visited. There were two servers and maybe 10 people in the restaurant. My server seemed nice, but was not friendly nor customer service oriented. Oh well. I ordered the bacon and eggs special with a side of ranchera sauce. It came with refried beans, potatoes, and two tortillas. For being only two eggs, it was a good size serving. The bacon scrambled into it were perfect bite size pieces. The flavor was what you expect. Almost a homely flavor. The tortillas were good. They reminded me of the flatter variety you find along the Tex mex border. SA tortillas are fluffier by comparison. Either way, this place had good tortillas. Not the best tortillas, but better than some other places. The beans were ok, though. They almost tasted like from a can, but were passable. I’ve had worst. The ranchera sauce was tasty, and had a nice tomato flavor but not much spice. It had strands of onions and chunks of chiles. They red salsa reminded me of a smoky chipotle sauce. The green salsa was creamy and had a kick to it, so I preferred that one over the over two. It just needed a little salt for my taste. Overall, I would definitely return if I’m in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
Tacos are on point, the bean and cheese and beans and chorizo are awesome. Can’t beat $2.50 for three before 11am. Haven’t tried a lot of other things but the service is good and their green salsa is the best!
