Occasionally, an experience at a dining establishment is so poor that it motivates an individual to spend the time to write a review, in the hope that it will help others avoid the bad experience.First of all, if you haven’t visited this restaurant, the food is sub-par by any standard beyond fast food Mexican. If you have eaten anything authentic, anything from California or Texas, or any of the good restaurants in salt lake (Red Iguana, Lone Star Taqueria, or even Cafe Rio, etc)…don’t bother considering this place. There is no flavor to the dishes, no spice, nothing unique…its just bland and disappointing. Second, the prices are OUTRAGEOUS. Fajitas, which don’t have close to the amount of meat you would get anywhere else (even Chilis) are $19! The simple burrito plates and taco plates vary from $12 to $16. If they are going to charge high end prices, they need to actually back it up with some good food. In the part I was in, I tried fajitas, burritos, tacos, and enchiladas…the results were consistently poor. Our meal for our family of five was $71 before tip. Be prepared for that.Last, they engage in some pretty interesting practices not listed or spelled out anywhere on the menu. Namely, the number of entrees at the table must match the number of people. If not, you will be charged for an extra entree if everyone ate chips and salsa. This was told to us after everyone was eating chips and salsa. There is no price listed for chips and salsa so, believe it or not, you will pay full price for a kids entree if your 2 year old eats a single chip but doesn’t have a meal for themselves! Please do yourself a favor, save yourself some money and head over to Cafe Rio or Chipotle, the food is better tasting and much more affordable.

The Salsa Bar makes this place, it’s standard southwest mexican food. The enchiladas were good, shredded beef tacos were ok, would be better in a crisp corn tortilla instead of Taco Bell hard shells, which tasted stale. Overall it’s a pretty good place. Some salsas are better than others, just preference. It is a bit pricey, but then again your paying for the endless Salsa Bar and chips.

Food is very good and the house specials are great, especially macho jalapeos.

The salsa bar has a few standout salsas. The street tacos were good. The roasted corn side was very good. My only complaint was the mole. If you know what good mole is supposed to be like, do not order it here. A surprise was the entertainment. They had a couple of guitarists performing, both of whom were talented. One even played gentle acoustic arrangements of some classic rock songs, and it was pleasant and not at all cheesy. I will go back, but will steer clear of the mole

I’ve been here at least three times and have enjoyed it every time. Service is great, food is yummy, and the salsa bar (like the old Cafe Pierpont used to have in SLC) with fresh, warm chips top it off. Great, smaller lunch specials and tasty Mexican-American food. Great, warm atmosphere. You’ll definitely go back. My neighbor’s favorite restaurant. One of my favorite top 4 Mexican places on Wasatch Front. Must go! Locations in Sandy and Layton.

The Salsa Bar is worth the visit. I do like the Shrimp Ceviche Tostadas. It’s an interesting Mexican place.

Palatable food high price, bad management. I ate here for my 3rd and last time today. Their salsa bar attracted me, but their food lacks taste and their kitchen staff is inept. My order has been screwed up everytime i go there, today the cook changed the type of Quesadillias I ordered. Today was the last straw, I had a coupon for a return visit, and was told I couldn’t use it inconjunction with the daily special. The special was half price appitizers, and the coupon was 3 dollars off two entrees My bill was 21 dollars for two for lunch, and with three dolalrs off it would have been 18, the manager refused to honor the coupon which doesn’t say not good with other offers. Well like i said, the food has never been that great anyway, I ate cold rolled tacos on my second visit, and tasteless Chile Relanoes on my first visit. Their chile Rojo sauce on my enchalada was more like tomaoe sauce, bottom line save your money youll get better quailty food and cutomer service at taco bell, or Del Taco.
