It is very rare for me to get mad enough to actually write a negative review but Teppanyaki tonight was able to set me on fire.Tonight I went out with the family for my daughters birthday. She was excited because I had taken her and her sister on a daddy daughter date one evening. Well after being seated and then watching the group that came in after us get seated they came in to take our orders. The orders were taken quickly. Unfortunately that was the only thing that was quick. We sat and watched the group who was seated after us have their food prepared and they were nearly finished by the time we even had a chef who came over to begin preparing our food. We waited for over an hour just to have our food prepared.I can deal with waiting for food if it is quality and actually done correctly. Unfortunately that was not the case. The chef asked how I would like my steak cooked and I told him rare. Well after watching 3 other steaks being prepared at the table one of them being well done as requested by the customer they chef got to mine. If I would have taken a bite out of a old boot it would have been more moist than the extra well done steak that I received. My wife and I decided to share a combination platter this is advertised $8.95 (soup, salad, hibachi vegetables, and rice). She got her soup and salad but they only gave us one serving of veggie’s and rice. With the chicken she received in her part of the combination plate I think saying she had 8 pieces would be ultra generous with the portion she received. I brought these errors to the attention of the waitress who was assisting us and she explained to me that all you receive on the shared plate are an extra soup and salad. I thought wait a minute I am paying basically $9.00 for marginal soup and salad? She then brought our check. When I saw the check I was about ready to go through the roof. Here is the breakdown.2 Children’s Chicken Hibachi – $19.901 Children’s New York strip – $9.951 Shared Plate – $8.951 New York Strip and Chicken Combo – $22.951 Upgrade to Fried Rice $3.00Total $64.75Tax $5.34Automatic Gratuity $12.18Total – $82.27It was at this time I decided to address the auto gratuity with the waitress and she said that is added to all parties over 5. Well last that I counted a party of 5 was no over 5 unless I am mistaking. Also they added a gratuity of close to 19%. I have looked and verified that they charge auto gratuity on parties of 6 or more and that gratuity is only 17%. Normally I tip well without being forced into tipping well but when your service is poor and you fail to get what you actually paid for it disgusts me. I will never step foot in another Tepanyaki and will share this story with others so they can actually go somewhere that a meal can be enjoyed.I realize that mainly what you pay for in a place like this is the atmosphere unfortunately even the chef was lack luster at best. He had 0 energy and didn’t even bother to build the volcano which was the one part the kids were looking forward to.Thanks for disappointing a 4 year old!!!
COULDNT BE ANY WORSE. Like many other reviewers, I found this one of the worst dining experiences ever – atrocious service, wait times of up to 90 min. (even with a reservation), fair to wretched food, untrained wait staff (when they show up occasionally after intervals of up to 30 min.), and alarmingly unsanitary conditions. ALL THIS AT A PRICEY RESTAURANT WHERE THE TEPANYAKI SPECIALS RUN ABOUT $21.99 TO $49.99, AND OTHER DISHES AREN’T MUCH LESS. We weren’t seated until 30 min. after our reservation time, and waited an HOUR after being seated before being served any food (the soup and salads that were just sitting in the kitchen waiting to be served). Another 45 min. till a chef showed up to prepare our dinner, even though none of the chefs was cooking at another table (all on a 45 min. break while tables of customers are waiting?). After having been at the restaurant for 90 min. still with no food, I asked for the manager to come over to talk to me. Meanwhile I saw a waitress sneeze into her hand and just wipe her hand on her kimono – the hand she was serving with. DISGUSTING. The server who went to get the manager eventually returned to tell me she refused to come to the table. I went to the front, found her, and told her of all the problems we were having and our 90-minute wait. She did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to correct the problems; another 20 min. wait to finally get our salads and soup. All the food was wretched, under seasoned and bland or tasteless (but for being heavily over salted), and either over- or under-cooked: the sushi, the tough steak, the dry fish and the vegetables. The salmon had a strong fishy smell, indicating it had been improperly stored. I don’t know how they stay in business- let alone keep drawing customers.
WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. If I could give a zero I would. We were seated in the back corner of the restaurant. There were numerous waiters and cooks talking and having a good time at the front of the restaurant. An older lady who was very rude and unprofessional took our order. We then waited 45 minutes for our chef and no one had come to our table to cook our meal. My Party left due to the lack of service and professionalism. We will never return
Mad about the 18% Gratuity add. My wife and I have been eating here for over 4 years (at least every 6 weeks)! I think the sushi is decent for where we live. I am pretty trusting with the bill. And I always tip over 20% as I used to be server! Well today I looked at it and there was a 18% gratuity add. I asked our server how long they have been adding the tip to the bill and she says always (she has waited on me for all those years)! She just smiled as I stated Wow have I over tipped all these years! My biggest problem other than I’m an idiot for not looking closer at the bill is that I have seen their menu and it states 17% will be added to party’s of 6 or more. They just lost a long time customer!!!!!!
Worst dine out experience ever. When we got there they had said they I could fit our party. They fit us… in two difderent sections. It took over an hour to get someone out to even take drink orders. After she was INSISTANT we tell her who would be paying, she got us our waters. She didnt come back for another 30 to take our orders, and was again rude and pushy. Our chef was TERRIBLE and got the order wrong because of the lady taking our order got it wrong. When we got our checks she stood around asking for the money and would not leave until we’d all given her themnback. I paid with cash. They had already added gratuity…and when she came back I had to ask for my cash back. Then she opened it and took my check out amd started to walk away. I had to tell her I needed and wanted my check. She didnt even give me all my change back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was falling apart. The seats were all torn and broke . And the service was CRAP. I would never tell someone to go to this restaurant! !!!!
Horrible service. Don’t try to use a coupon at this place. They have so many loopholes it makes it not worth it. We had a coupon from the Sunday paper they said they didn’t put the coupon in the paper. One of the coupon deals they don’t offer at all another has very specific menu items you can use it on. None of this is specified on the actual coupon. On top of that they charge 18% gratuity whether your party is 2 or 10 on all you can eat sushi. The sushi is good but nothing I haven’t had anywhere else. For all the hassle definitely worth trying something else.
You have to know what you’re going there for. I have been going to Tepanyaki off and on for over 20 years, and I find the food delicious and the show lots of fun. Last time I went (Mar. 1, 2014) was no exception, but I knew that I’d have to wait and I knew that it would be crazy busy, especially on weekends. The service was just ok, but that’s what I expect on a busy evening. My only beef is that so many people bring their small children to a place like this, where most of them aren’t going to like the food and they just add to the noise and chaos.
