Fed Up.. I have never written a review before because I feel like one bad experience does not a restaurant make. Nielsen’s continues to disappoint on a regular basis and last night was the last stray. Let me say that the custard is not the problem. It is delicious. However, the continued poor way the shop is run, will finally outweigh the taste, especially now that there is competition in town. First point of frustration is a continued one. Please get out of the stone ages!!! It is the the 21st century and people don’t carry cash or checks anymore. The manager gave me a sob story about how expensive it is to the store to use credit card machines. I have owned a restaurant so I know what it costs. The manager also told me if they took credit cards they would have to charge as much as Las Vegas. Well, I checked and the Nielsen’s in Las Vegas is actually cheaper than the St George store. They are charging a premium already for their custard and it is frankly insulting that they are trying to pass off the issue as some favor to their customers. Next, the fact that I talked to the manager ever is amazing. She is virtually never there, especially at night when it is busy. There are a bunch of clueless teens working there. I have no problem with them, they are trying their best to do their job but they have no authority to do anything but stare like a deer in the headlights, when a problem arises. I ordered chocolate custard and was informed that they were all out. They said they could add some chocolate syrup to the vanilla. I asked if that would be considered a mix In and they said yes. This is ridiculous. If you can make a customer’s issue go away with a three cent squirt of chocolate you should do it, especially when the problem was the store’s lack of preparedness. I told the employees that I felt that this practice was not fair. They stared. I asked to speak to the manager. They stared. They then informed me that the manager was not in and they could not give me a name. I asked what you were supposed to do if you had a complaint. They stared. I would sure like to see Nielsen’s pick it up a little and bump their customers up on their priority list.

Avoid the food, but try the custard. The food here is not very good and it takes forever to get it. However, the custard is unique and delicious — if you can stand the slow service! Don’t even consider this place if you’re in a hurry, this place seems to be run by a bunch of unsupervised teenagers.
Tradition. Go for the custard.
Good custard. Not so good food.. Their custard is higher priced than frozen yogurt or ice cream, but I do like it a little better as it seems to be more dense and creamy. I don’t recommend ordering their food though, the service is reeaallly slow and the sandwich is tiny for the price and average tasting at best. Also, I don’t think they have changed the decor in this place in the past 20 years!
Yum!
