Terrible Service. I have been to the Athenian several times; each time it has slid a little more downhill. (On one occasion I was told they were out of tomatoes. How can a restaurant be out of tomatoes when they are within 2 miles of 4 grocery stores??) Each time the service is worse than the last. (The last time I was there for lunch there was only me, my friend, and 3 other people in the restaurant and they could not manage to get one customer a salad — his only order.) Tonight was the last straw — I will NOT be going back. First of all it was very cold in the restaurant. The service was absolutely awful. When we arrived at 5:30 on a Friday there were only a handful of people there and it was almost 15 minutes before the waitress even took our order. When she finally took our order she came back to inform us they didn’t have what we asked for (a steak and a halibut — they only had salmon). So we re-ordered. Our salads came before our appetizer (for an app we ordered the olives/ feta/ tomatoes plate). The appetizer never arrived at all. All around us were couples whose orders were screwed up; couples who had waited forever for one thing or another. One couple was served water and informed their ice-maker had just stopped working. I asked repeatedly about our appetizer and was told by the waitress that she was sorry — the chef was backed up. I reminded her that our appetizer didn’t require any cooking — it just needed to be plated and served. App never arrived. Eventually our meal did. arrive. My fiancee’s meatballs were cold. There was something off about the pita dip. Not seasoned properly or something. I don’t know what the problem is with the Athenian — understaffed, or poorly trained staff? owners not purchasing food? incompetent chef? All of the above? I just know that it just keeps getting worse. I’m not going back to see just how horrible it can get.
