WTF. Went here for a quiet Sunday lunch alone. Arrived 5 mins early for the reservation, still had to wait 20 minutes before seated. Once down, another 10 mins before my table was acknowledged with water in a plastic cup. Another 10 mins before I was asked for a drink order, when I put in my burger order at the same time. 25 mins later, my burger and beer arrived. Once finished, an additional 20 mins before I finally got up, went to the bar to get my check. Service was atrocious for a restaurant with 4 tables in it. On the way out a couple stopped me and asked if my service was as terrible as theirs. They said wine ordered with apps didn’t show up until half way through lunch. What in the world happened? It’s Montage, and it’s that messed up?
Worth a shot. The Montage hotel that holds APEX is wonderful with lots of big patios, beautiful views and of course – Deer Valley. There is a big open room with a live piano and fire places that you could hang out in for hours. The high end restaurant is APEX which sits next to the sloops so you can see the groomers at night going by as well as the sleigh rides. You can walk outside and sit by the fireplace right after diiner. The tables are very nice and and it all feels very upscale. Service was attentive and the wine list was a bit upper crust but reasonable. We had the buffalo ribeye and the filet which was perfect. What I did not like was the bar sitting at the end of the restaurant which was louder than it should have been. Also watch out for the halogen spots that sit over some of the tables that will toast your head like a fine panko crust. We ended up moving because no one could handle the heat. Finally, one of our guests was celebrating a birthday so they brought out a small chocolate treat with a candle without asking – nice. Then I was charged for it. So this place is worth a shot – just be careful where you sit and hope a game is not on in the bar.
The ambiance is worth the mediocre food.
Food was great. Service was extremely slow. There were 4 tables in the restaurant for dinner so it wouldn’t have been hard to take great care of us. The staff was nice, but just not as aware as they should have been. Our salads arrived before the sommlier took our wine order. Had they come sooner we may have had two bottles rather than one. The bone-in buffalo ribeye was fantastic as was the truffle Mac and cheese.
Please change staff trainer ASAP. Our two dinners were extremely bland and mediocre. Our two lunches were excellent (they should follow Stein’s lead and serve lunch menu in bar at dinner. Service at lunch was atrocious. Someone has told staff tobe personal; we endured constant long waits-to order,to get water and coffee refill, to get check etc.-while waitstaff chatted to other customers endlessly about theirpersonal history. Bus staff avoided eye contact at all cost.Manager came by and asked what he (Trevor) could do;we requested a coffee refill; he suggested a hot cup andthen left never to appear again nor to send anyone else tofill the request. A simple one course lunch took almost90 minutes-and it was half empty-a problem any time butparticularly when skiing.
