Def a Utah thing. Please don’t think its REAL MEXICAN FOOD.. The food is good, but if you take a Mexican there they will think it’s a joke. I mean seriously sweet pork? But never the less it is worth a try.

Bland Food. Went to Cafe Rio tonight for the first time. Was excited because I know a lot of people that love it. Wow, what a huge disappointment! the food was absolutely without any flavor or seasoning. The Pinto beans, totally bland no seasoning nothing. Horrible. The Rice – horrible, flavorless. Steak tacos and Chicken tacos. No flavor at all. My 8 year old said, that tastes like nothing, completely bland. The Enchiladas, slightly more flavor only because it is smothered in sauce, but still not good. What are these people thinking? The service was terrible, the staff acts like its a nuisance to serve you. Get over it Utah, there are better places to eat mexican food. I have never had such bland food before. Here is a tip Cafe Rio, when you cook your chicken and steak- put a little seasoning on it. The fresh tortillas are a complete waste when what you put in it tastes like crap. The atmosphere- horrible, dirty and loud. Would not recommend at all. Don’t waste your time or money.

Used to be my favorite Restaurant but the meat portions have gotten so small I will not be going back.I knew when Burger king bought cafe Rio it would just be a matter of time before the food quality would suffer.

Burned Out. Now hear me out…..it’s just that I’m burned out, okay?I grew up in St. George by the very first Cafe Rio. True I was never a fan of their burritos, but years later, when I worked at the Provo one, I discovered how fabulous everything else was; salads, desserts, soup, quesadillas, service, etc. But a couple of years ago, I got burned out. True burn out means you can never go back and enjoy it like you once did–it becomes kinda gross to you. We have this fairly new Cafe Rio near us here in Spanish Fork, and it has confirmed my burn out. It’s all just very heavy food. I feel really gross and sick afterwards. We are sort of okay with the daily specials, but total burn-out of those will most likely come soon. I will even agree that Cafe Rio is good, I just don’t like it anymore. My go-to burritos and salads are now located at Mountain West Burrito in Provo.

Very disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The cafe Rio in Coeur d’Alene Idaho just openned a month ago. I arrived at around 4:30 PM on wednesday. I thought this was the famouos Cafe Rio that serves good food no matter what. But, I ordered a burrito with the mild sauce they make and apperently the entire thing was without taste, the sauce tasted and smelled like the oil on your car after 8 months drive. Why do you want to put black beens in a pan and cook them without spices and sell to customer at the same time. no way, somebody have to change this. If you open a restaurant and you want to make money then cook well, with quality food…!

Good food but crowded. I suppose you should expect a restaurant in between the UVU and BYU campuses to be crowded. But this Cafe Rio is always jam-packed with students talking very loudly about their failed dates from the previous nights. I swear every time we go there, I am surrounded by girls complaining about jerk guys that wouldn’t say they looked pretty or something silly. Perhaps I’m over-reacting, but it has happened the last 3 times straight and tonight was no different. Also frustrating… the last 3 times I’ve been there for the daily special (today was shrimp tacos with mango), they were completely out of some part of the special. Tonight they were out of mango. At 7pm! Don’t they do this every week? How do they not buy enough product based on historical sales?!? I went specifically for the shrimp tacos in the MANGO sauce, so I was more than disappointed that I got to checkout and they handed me their normal sauce (still tasty, but not what I wanted). I suppose I could have just walked out and left my food, but I was hungry and I had waited 10 minutes in line.I would suggest trying a different Cafe Rio unless you like the college crowd and you don’t mind disappointments at checkout.
