Looking for cheap sushi? This is the place.. We prefer other sushi places, but this place has an unbeatable price. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, sushi is $4. The sushi is simple and cheap, and nothing amazing but still good, but if you have a sushi craving and want to save money, this is the place to go.
Surprised!. Wow, I’m surprised there are so many bad reviews! I am very picky about Japanese food, and loved this place! Yakisoba was delicious and ramen was surpringly satisfying (and we’ve had killer pork belly ramen at WAY more expensive places) We’ll definitely go back!
WORST PLACE EVER. I will say, its nice to have some really cheap sushi sometimes when you have no money and want sushi, but its barely above supermarket sushi. The tempura is soggy and lacking breading and their food is generally bland. But the part of this place that makes it so appallingly horrible is the service. I went as a group of 6, took them 2 1/2 hours to sit us (and sat over 15 groups that arrived after us!) we were only served water once and then if we wanted more water or had any sort of problem, we had to go back and poke into the kitchen to ask several times. We asked for our check three times and it took them 45 minutes After we had all finished eating and had repeatedly asked before they finally gave us our check. I hoped that this was a fluke and have been back many times and every time is just so horrible I dont even care if its cheap!I tried to get around the terrible service by getting take out but then found out that THEY ADD 18% GRATUITY TO ALL TAKEOUT!!! Not only that but they dont even tell you!! I complained about it (since they dont even earn an 18% tip when I eat in) and when I told them I wasnt going to pay that much tip and left a smaller tip, two of the employees started being loud and rude and sarcastic to me for not wanting to leave them their 18% tip! I really wish they had a corporate office so that I could make someone higher up aware of the neglectful, disrespectful, degrading and discusting service this place has!
Great :). I just went to try De Mae last week with my family and I thought it was excellent. I had no complaints on the service. The waiter was very friendly and kind and was good to make sure we got out order and filled our drinks long before we’d run out. I enjoyed my food as well did my family. It had great flavor. I will be going back.
Not as good as I remember. I used to really like this place. They have a good, decently priced tempura bowl which has a tempura-ed mess of onions and carrots-something which I miss from Japan and haven’t seen anywhere else. I got miso and a salad with the best sesame dressing I’ve ever had with it too.However, the last time I went I was very disappointed. The teriyaki chicken was rubbery and some of the pieces were so made up of fat. The tempura seemed odd too: it seemed like it had been sitting around for a while. I probably won’t go again.
I wouldn’t say I hate it, but…. I hate it. Truth is, the sushi is passable, and it’s even pretty cheap. Unfortunately, it has worse service than the DMV in downtown Detroit (that means it’s really, really bad).Want a seat? Tough. Want a drink? Tough. Want some food? Tough. Want a refill? Tough. Want your bill? Tough. Want to pay? Well, they’re actually pretty quick about that part…Oh, and last time I was there, I ran into my crazy ex. Yeah, this place is THAT bad.
Under new management?. I’ve been going to this restaurant for the past 3 years or so and it’s changed up a little bit. Usually there’s a hippie crowd who wait on you, but more recently it’s all switched over to Asian waiters–there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, but kinda why I’m thinking they’ve changed management. They all wear a standard uniform now too. Service has gotten a little quicker. There are new menus with slightly more items available. Still good food-not over the top, just simple standard sushi. Price has gone up a little since the changes, but still pretty reasonable on cheap nights. Cheap nights are still Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting around 3 or 4pm.
