Good food, nice decor terrible music,. The las Vegas roll is decent and it’s different from I’ve had it any where else. the sunshine roll is also good but it may not be a favorite.the inside is great looking and gives you a good Japanese feel. however the music pulls you a way from that and makes you feel depressed.
AMAZING SUSHI. I have been to Kyoto several times, and found it quite by accident. We were tired of the ‘all-you-can-eat’ local establishments and to be honest, don’t enjoy paying the prices for the food at Happy Sumo. The quality of the food is absolutely the best that I’ve had in Utah County. Having lived in the Bay Area for 15 years, I have consistently been left disappointed with the quality of sushi here in Utah – especially Utah County. I was not only impressed with the quality of sushi at Kyoto, but also with the beautiful presentation of the sashimi – it was truly art on a plate! TJ is an amazing chef, and is very personable. I was so impressed with the quality of food but the pricing sealed the deal as far as my becoming a dedicated patron. In addition to the sushi, they also have teppanyaki on the other side of the restaurant. Another item of interest is the traditional seating option on the sushi side. I have hired Kyoto to cater our Open House – and once again, they have impressed me with how well and easy they have been to work with! Both Michael (the owner) as well as TJ have gone above and beyond to make our experience amazing! I am so excited for our event because of their presence!
Crappy service. I was there just a little while ago. The place was not busy at all. We were seated right away. We were put in back of the house then left there alone for the rest of the night. Nobody even came for our drink order. The waitress looked at us many times and served several people that came in after us. We then decided to leave and as we were leaving the waitress practically tripped me. We have no idea why we were treated this way. We weren’t even able to say anything to make them mad at us. The service is the worst I have ever had in my life!!! I would never eat there or recommend any one to eat there!!
Kyoto > Happy Sumo, Shoga, etc.. If you haven’t been to Kyoto (or been there recently), clear your schedule and make your way over to the most delicious and affordable sushi in town. It’s over by Olive Garden and Shopko… you know the place, it’s that restaurant that’s changed a few times in recent years, but no worries – Kyoto is here to stay. The new owners are doing a great job with the place – they’ve hired attentive servers (ask for Emily) and incredible sushi chefs (TJ is the best in Utah County). With the buy-one-get-one-free special going on all of the time, you can get four specialty rolls for about $25. Do the same up the road at some of the other sushi establishments in town and that will cost you $45-$60. Even without price as a factor, I would still choose Kyoto. Any day. It is seriously good. If you’re not in the mood for sushi, head over to the hibachi tables and enjoy a great meal and a show for a buy-one-get-one-1/2-off special. Ezra, my favorite hibachi chef, does not disappoint. And you’ll never have to wait 45+ minutes to get a table like you would at TX Roadhouse or Cheesecake Factory. You can come with a small group or a huge party and they’ll get you right in. Bottom line: Kyoto is one of the best things to happen to Provo in a long time. If you’re not there scarfing down a sunset or fuzzy wuzzy roll in the next few days, you’re missing out.
Love it. I think that the previous bad reviews must have been from when Kyoto was under different management or something, because I’ve been there at least six times and it has always been amazing. It is pretty expensive, which is the only reason I haven’t gone more. The food is beyond delicious and I’ve never been mistreated there. My husband and I eat out quite a bit and this place is one of our favorites. If it were more affordable we’d probably be there every week. It’s always empty, which I don’t mind, but if you’re the type who wants to be in a packed restaurant when you eat out, it will probably bug you.
Love this place. I crave it on a weekly basis. They have great deals on sushi and i think it is my favorite sushi restuarant in the provo/orem area. I love the sunset roll, the caterpiller, the fuzzy wuzzy, and rainbow. I have been over 10 times and havent had any complaints
Good Food. Me and my wife when to Kyoto in Provo tonight for the first time, it was recommended by a coworker who works there on Friday’s and Saturday’s, The food was very good specially the salad and the fried rice, The cook was excellent and so was the hostess. we had the hibachi Steak and Shrimp and that was good but the only thing that we were disappointed in was they didn’t give you enough vegetables, i was still hungry, we have been to other Japanese restaurants and they would give you lots of vegetables and i would feel full.
