Some of the best tacos around. Way in the back corner of this market is a terrific taco shop; really one of the hidden gems in Provo. The asada and carnitas tacos are among the best in the county. Sometimes the asada tacos come with handmade tortillas and are mind-bogglingly phenomenal; other times, they’re *just* really good.I wasn’t crazy about the pastor tacos or tacos dorados (potato) – pretty average – but the tamale were quite good and the refried beans are almost always amazing. They put little bits of meat and dried chiles in them, which adds to the already rich flavor. We got a ton of beans (and carnitas, etc.) for a large family party, and the beans were inhaled within minutes; everybody looooooved them. The chilaquiles are pretty decent, too.I tried a burrito there a few times – a carnitas and a breakfast burrito – and wasn’t impressed. Not their thing, I guess. This place can be somewhat inconsistent, chaotic and can be a bit of a wait at times. Plus, you may have to work through a language barrier at times, but it’s workable. I speak almost no Spanish but have always been able to get by just fine.Update: the taco counter has been greatly expanded (along with the rest of the market) with a large dining area and a more standard-looking menu. Quality is still good, but not quite what it used to be, IMHO. The asada and carnitas weren’t quite as flavorful. Beans are still excellent.
