I would like to give them 0 star if there is one. The food is unauthentic, un-fresh, but the price is so expensive. If you have been to any number of Chinese restaurants you would know that most indecently generous Chinese restaurant provides free rice (at least one free bowl for every dish ordered). We (4 people) ordered 4 dishes with no free rice, they charged $1.50 PER BOWL. The service was terrible, one waitress there even forced us to pay full tips. Also, the restaurant house has very bad smells, no fresh air like in a basement. Another Chinese restaurants just 1-2 block away on that street, called New Mom’s kitchen, is much better than this one.
After trying this place twice I can say this is the worst Chinese American food I’ve ever had. The sesame chicken was grey, the eggroll was greasy, unpleasant and came with a strange colored sauce that seemed to be watered down, and the scallion pancake was crispy on the outside, raw on the inside, and managed to be oddly tasteless while also leaving a metallic aftertaste in my mouth. I really do not understand why this place has any positive reviews. I did see other Chinese customers in there – perhaps they do a good job on the authentic Chinese menu but if you want standard takeout fare go elsewhere! Even the fortune cookie tasted funny!
NEW TO SALT LAKE. My fiance and I are new to Salt Lake and use Google Maps and other online sources as a means of finding decent resteraunts and other similar type establishments. I read the reviews for the Golden Phoenix chineese resteraunt and went over the menu, then decided we would place our take out order. The ONLY thing that was satisfactory, it turned out was the appetizer (crab rangoon). They were very tasty and I belived them to be good enough to mention here. For two people, we spent 36 dollars and some change. Not bad I suppose but for the fact that we could only enjoy ONE of the two main dishes, it was overall VERY DISCOURAGING!! We ordered a Mongolian Beef which unfortunately tasted like it was cooked in the pan with some sort of fish. It was AWFUL!! To make matters worse, when we called to notify them, the gentleman had little to say but that they do not have any fish items on their menu and that couldn’t be the case. Hmmm… maybe I had an old menu because I did see a few dishes with the words, WHITE FISH in them!! I don’t know. Perhaps like the gentleman said when I went to place our order. I asked for the sizzling rice soup which I read from the menu and he stated they don’t serve that, that that is an east coast thing and was a popular item from the 80’s but they do not have such a thing there.Fine I said discouraged. I ordered two other soups. I guess those fish items I also saw on their menu were perhaps old and from the east coast or 80’s too? Either way, my fiance is allergic to fish and I now have to make sure he takes his Benydril for the night to keep his hives at bay. So much for our night watching movies too since he’ll be too drowsy and most likely fall asleep due to the medication side effects. Thanks a lot Golden Phoenix!!! We will never order again from your establishment and you ruined a perfectly good evening for us. 🙁
Excellent Chinese food!. We LOOOVED our food! We got their dim sum and couldn’t STOP eating!Their HUGE, round pot stickers (atleast I think that’s what they were) were by far the best I’ve ever eaten on the planet but when we asked for more, they brought out something else (the normal kind you see everywhere else) so I’m not sure what we got.
Best food ever!!! Worst decor and seats ever. Best egg rolls, soups, and overall dishes in the state!!! Just don’t look at your surroundings and you’ll enjoy.
