Food’s fine…customer service is NOT. We always encounter at least one employee in that restaurant who has a huge chip on their shoulder. It’s always a female, and it’s usually either the waitress or the lady at the front ringing up the tabs. La Frontera has the exact same food (because they’re recipes come from the same family) BUT they’re service is so much friendlier!
Customer. I must say really good food! i have been to other Mexican restaurants but have had something always wrong as far a taste go’s the taste would never be the same, you would hope u went when a good cook was working…..but i have NEVER had that problem HERE! i just love the Smothered Burrito with side of rice! my 6 yr eats it as well. every lil bit we will always keep coming back!
Good food, not so good service. I have always loved La Puente’s food. I used to love their service too. They were friendly and would check back with you and acted like they were at least happy you came in. Their service now is terrible but if you are ok with just going in to get a good meal and are not worried so much about the service it is good food . Wouldn’t recommend getting anything to go because they always will not give you exactly what you order or ask for.
Not bad at all. As a first-timer at La Puente, I was fortunate to stumble in just in time for the Wednesday lunch special, an enormous smothered burrito with cheese and a generous helping of either rice or beans. I found it to be outstanding. The sturdy flour tortilla hold up to the chili without being too bready. The chili verde is outstanding, the heat and flavor of green chiles is well balanced, with a hint of tomato and a fair number of large, tender chunks of pork. The rice is very good, fluffy tender grains nicely flavored with tomato, onion and spices. A huge plate of wonderful food, and for less than six dollars!I also ordered a chile relleno, served a la carte with a garnish of lettuce and tomato. The relleno was disappointing, the egg batter crust virtually non-existent, and the entire dish almost completely flavorless aside from the sauce. And even the sauce was pretty dull. The dining room is clean and pleasant, decorated with southwestern themed items that are cheesy but inoffensive. Service was decent and my food was on the table quickly. However, several off-duty staff were hanging out in the dining room being rather noisy, and the staff were communicating by shouting across the restaurant. The lighting is strings of bare bulbs with more than half of them burnt out, leaving the place too dimly lit for comfort. For those with mobility issues, be aware the entrance is up half a flight of stairs; there is an elevator, but it requires a key to operate (I’d call ahead to make sure it’s available if needed).
Awesome Smothered Burritos. We’ve been going to La Puente for years. The service is hit and miss, but the food ALWAYS gets to your table quick and doesn’t disappoint. The smothered burrito(with cheese) is a staple for me. It is awesome. Love their nachos too. Always tons of cheese on them. I’ll keep going back.
