As if the end of breaking bad isn’t depressing enough, went to green papaya today for a bowl of pho. Sad to say, they’ve changed into a fast food Vietnamese take away! You order at the counter, no more beer, your hoisin comes in a big pump fry sauce dispenser and you eat with plastic spoons. Boo hiss. Just so you know. Almost started crying!

R.I.P. Green Papaya. What used to be the best Vietnamese restaurant in town (great atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, extensive menu) has turned into the Cafe Rio of pho. Anyone who has been there before will be disappointed with their new business model. Overtly contemporary, sterile, obnoxiously lit, the restaurant (if you can call it that now) has put in a counter to order at (you read right, ordering at the counter) and stopped serving alcohol. The menu is more limited, although in fairness, the food is the same (very good), and the place has been stripped of any trace of ambiance. If you haven’t been, you might want to try it for lunch, but for those who remember it fondly, the Green Papaya you knew is gone, and it’s time to move on.

Not kid friendly!!. Today I went to the Green Papaya to eat lunch. There were a couple of women eating. They had a young baby, maybe a year, and one of the workers of the restaurant came up to the mother and told her to keep her baby quiet because there were other people eating in the restaurant. I do not think the baby was being loud or disruptive at all. He was just being a baby. And I think it was very rude of the staff member to approach the patrons the way he did. I will never eat there again!!! After seeing the look on that poor mothers face, she had tears in her eyes, she didn’t even finish her lunch and left with her young child. Completely rude and awful service. I am just appalled and saddened. Having young children myself, I know how hard it is to go out and keep them completely quiet and entertained. It is impossible

Great pho!. Great pho and friendly dependable service. Hot delicious silky broth meets delicate rice noodles, beef, Thai basil, lime and bean sprouts not to mention plenty of sriracha. I also added veggies which I recommend. I will be back. The spring rolls were great too as was the savory and sweet peanut dipping sauce,

It’s ok i guess.. The pho is acceptable but not great. The portion is small compared to any other bowl of pho in the neighborhood – and there are ever so many places to get pho in that neighborhood. They try too hard to give the place a trendy and fun atmosphere. I ordered a simple thai iced tea and it got served to me in this absurd tall skinny glass and there i am, a dude, looking like I’m some girl who’s ordered something girly. What gives? On another visit i had a massaman curry and the beef in that was pretty tough. For the money there are half a dozen better places to eat one form or other of vietnamese or thai within a block. or so.

Quail. I know it’s sad..but the quail is a must have here. It’s tender and moist and has that melt-in-your-mouth sensation when you eat it. The meat is smooth and full of flavor; I never skip it when I come here. And of course, I love their pho. Especially since they offer it with tofu!! Plus the atmosphere is dimly lit, pretty modern looking and very comfortable.

Really, really good.. Pretty much everything I’ve tried at this place is really good. The one item that I love is the pork, rice and egg plate. Dipping the pork in the accompanying fish sauce is fantastic. I don’t think you can go wrong dining here.
