Tried to pull a fast one. After a few more visits I’ve realized that their menu is more miss than hit than I originally thought. Their Chile Relleno is one of the worst I’ve ever had. It didn’t taste fresh, had soggy breading and a nasty marinara sauce on top. On another occasion, my Flautas were overcooked and had almost nothing inside them. And the kicker is, they sneakily left a couple of the higher cost toppings off. When I asked them where the avocado was, our server acted like she had no idea what we were talking about and that it wasn’t included. After we insisted she left to ask the kitchen, while we grabbed a menu to double check. To our amazement, not only should avocado have been included, but they left the cheese off too! Five minutes later she brought some fresh guacamole without a word of apology. We were disgusted that they would try to cut corners in this manner, hoping that customers wouldn’t act or notice. It left me with a very bad taste in my mouth for this place. I’m not sure we will be going back.11 Feb, 2011Get it smothered in red sauce!. Taqueria Ramones may look a bit sketchy from the outside, but inside is much better than out. The booths, tables and floors are very clean, and the service is friendly and usually fast.As for the food, what I’ve tried so far has all been excellent. I highly recommend their massive Smothered Burrito with Carne Asada and Red sauce. They fill it with rice, beans, meat and guacamole, and smother it with cheese, sour cream and their amazing red sauce all over it. Their red sauce has a tangy, slightly sweet kick to it that I really enjoy. Everything tastes so fresh here and they use quality ingredients. I also enjoy their Three Enchilada plate, again smothered in red sauce. The enchilada version has a touch of chocolate to it, like just a touch of mole. It is excellent as well. They also serve a perfectly made Horchata with just the right amount of cinnamon in the aftertaste, and it’s bottomless which is usually unheard of in a place like this. Now for my only complaints..they tend to be light on the guacamole, but it only affects the flavor minimally. Also, their beans are very light in color and the texture of baby food. They still taste pretty good, but it is visually and texturally strange to me haha. Overall this place has some great flavors and very nice people. I’ll have to try their mariscos (seafood) next time as I’ve heard it is good here as well. I can’t recommend it enough!
