We left about 17 percent.02 Mar, 2013My coworkers and I used to love going here, occaisionally until last week. The food and beers are moderately priced and the service was always friendly and good. One of the few places you can escape the college and/or tourist crowds in downtown. Well we won’t be going back after the manager had the nerve to question us on the tip we left last Friday. Service was normal, nothing special, but nothing wrong either. We left a tip of about 17, which is in our opinion nothing to complain about for standard, decent service. Confronting customers about the amount of their gratuities really leaves a bad taste in their mouths. Sorry but we won’t be back Church St Tavern.

Good food; I definitely enjoyed my Reuben. But I felt like the food was quick and thoughtless. Wished there was more homemade aspects to the food.

Open Face Steak Sandwich is a Strong Point. I’ve read other reviews stating Church Street Tavern isn’t great if you have kids. It happens to be a favorite with my kids. They love the fries and especially the fried garlic mushrooms. My daughter loves the French Onion Soup and both love the nachos. Our last visit, for my son’s birthday, wasn’t as impressive. However, that was because their grill was broken which limited menu options to fried foods only. We thought about leaving, but he really wanted to eat there. In the end, it was the Steak Sandwich he’d really wanted to have for his 16th b-day, and it was the one item he couldn’t have.I realize the breakdown of the grill is a fluke that could happen anywhere, but for this day it was a bummer.

Good food, good atmosphere, ehh on service but was a good little joint when everything else is busy. Try the open face steak sandwich…
