Pleasant surprise. We travelled by motorcycle thru Vermont to tour the New England states of Maine, Mass. ,etc to New york city.We ate here the night the hurricane came in, and this was we believe the best meal of our trip. Recommended by the owners of our B & B just down the road( great place to stay) . The food ,wine and service were spot on.We were very surprised to find a restaurant of this refinement in this location. (no offense meant) The local population must know what a jewel they have in their midst and support it well. We have travelled extensively including two trips to Paris and also eat at often at our favourite French restaurant, ‘La petit France’ in Toronto, Canada. We will return if we find ourselves within 500 miles of the place.
Pleased Diner. We just returned from the best meal we’ve had in Vermont. The service was fabulous and every course was wonderful. We can’t wait to return.
Not often wowed…. … but Tourterelle wowed me. I’m one of those people who’s typically prompted to write a review after a negative experience. This is one of the few occasions where my expectations were so far exceeded that I felt compelled to share.I graduated from Middlebury college in 1997 and have been making the trip from Boston to the Champlain Valley for nearly 20 years now. One of the major attractions for me is the sheer number of superlative restaurants in the area. For years, one of my very favorites was Roland’s Place at the 1796 House. Roland’s was recently closed and reopened and Tourterelle. Last night was the first chance I had to try it out.It was perfect. Everything. I loved the cozy but contemporary decor and atmosphere. The service was spookily impeccable; I never once felt neglected or rushed. The waitress always appeared precisely when she should, and the owner stopped by to check in on the guests (a nice holdover from Roland’s) from time to time. And then there was the food. From the fresh baked poppyseed petits pains to the tuna tartare appetizer, paupiettes de veau entre and chocolate hazelnut banana crpe dessert: all was prepared to perfection and the portions were just as they should be. I kept looking for some chink in the veneer, but none appeared. I couldn’t come up with anything even resembling a complaint.Needless to say, Tourterelle is my new favorite restaurant, and I look forward to many drives up from Boston in the future to experience it again and again!
There is no better. From Loulou to Touterelle, from Brooklyn to New Haven Vermont, I have followed the owners of Tourterelle in search of great food, fantastic service, affordable prices, and a great atmosphere. And, on top of it, Tourterelle doubles as a B&B with great, cozy, romantic accomodations in lovely surroundings I drove 5 1/2 hours to spend the weekend at Tourterelle. I will do it again. This past time it was for a romantic weekend for my wife and I on our 10 year wedding anniversary. Next time it will be with our young kids for whom both both the restaurant and lodging are perfect. Whether for dinner or Sunday brunch, you can’t go wrong at this fabulous spot. And there is so much to do in the immediate vicinity, from MIddlebury college, to hiking in Snake mountain, to a visit to the local windery, soap factory, or wooden toy store, makes this a great destination for one and all.
Outstanding. I went for Sunday Brunch and it was delightful. The food was amazing, and we had great service. The owner came by to check on us which I thougth was a nice touch. The decor was charming and very comfortable. It’s definitley a place you could bring children to . Yet it could also be a romantic spot since there are several different dining areas.I’ll be going back again this Sunday! Nice to have such a high quality dining establishment 5 minutes away.
Terrific. This place just opened and I was amazed at how good the food was not to mention the decor — really tasteful. I was in the restaurant business for nearly twenty years, so I can be picky, but the French cuisine here was exceptional. I will return.
An a amazing jewel in the rolling hills of the Champlain valley. Wonderful French Resraunt with suprisingly reasonable prices considering the level of the cusine.
