Best Pizza in Charlottesville Area. I’ll admit that I haven’t been to a few of the other highly rated places in the area, but the Bellisima pizza at Dr. Ho’s is so spectacular that I cannot imagine a more thoughtfully composed pie with the freshest ingredients. I’ve been 3 times and have always been treated well. Perhaps that’s because I treated the servers well? Anyway, it does take 20 minutes or so to get a pie so know that going in.
I confess, the pizza doesn’t do it for me. Ive had three or four different pizzas at Dr. Hos and each time, as I look at the beautiful pie in front of me vibrant colors, generous and unique toppings, thin, crisp crust I expect to be wowed by a gastronomic feast. Sadly each time Ive been disappointed. The pizzas, for all their visual appeal, are amazingly lacking in taste. They are just bland. Dr. Hos is the only pizza Ive put salt on trying to amp up the flavor. On the other hand, their salads are quite good. Ive tried the arugula, beet and goat cheese, and Caesar salads and found each to be very fresh and delicious. On our last visit, my husband tried their meatball sub, which he declared to be quite good. I was charmed by the substitution of a pickled okra pod that came with his sandwich in place of the mundane dill pickle found elsewhere. All in all, I like Dr. Hos; the ambiance is funky, the wait staff friendly, and the food is made from as many fresh and local ingredients as the chef can get. I just find the pizza lackluster.Of note is the fact that the owners have built a new restaurant onto the space of the old one, thus probably tripling their seating capacity.
Excellent pizza made with thoughtfully selected ingredients. Well worth the drive.
Easily the BEST pizza we’ve had in over ten years! The crust is perfect. It’s crispy and airy and delightful. Negatives: -the waitress is nasty. Consistently. Unfortunately, we get her every time and her attitude hasn’t improved. -very small and cramped dining area. -a little bit dirty. Overall, the pizza is totally worth it. We’ll be back for that reason only! Thanks to the guys in kitchen. GREAT job!
Amazingggg pizza!!! So fresh and delicious. I didn’t care for my ice cream sandwich much, the chocolate cookie was too hard. But the caramel was the best caramel I’ve ever had in my life. I’m getting a caramel sundae next time 🙂 oh and can’t forget the ranch dressing!! Best I’ve ever had. Forreal.
Not a good place. NASTY sums it up. had to wait 45 min for a not so good pizza while listening to Rap blasting and the staff swearing like sailors while cooking. Definitely a DIVE
Perfection. I’ve had great pizza all over this country and Italy too. This is hands down one of my favorite pizza places in the world. The atmosphere is quaint, the staff is great (if they were mean, you deserved it). I live six miles away and often do take out or pick up a pie on my way home – Oh and 10 pizzas and you get a free one! What’s not to love. Go Hos!
