The Food was good and the chef put on a good show. The service was quick when it ame to ordering and the chef cooking our food; however, we had to ask our waitress to refill our drinks and ask for the check at the end.
Rude staff, do not recommend.. My wife and small child have been here a couple of times and both times were treated poorly by the owners and wait staff. They refuse to serve the hibachi menu in the sushi bar area, even though you can order it to go. They claim you can only get hibachi in the hibachi area which with a small child it’s nice to have the option of dining alone. Other Japanese steak-houses allow it. The food was average, considering the service – 20 minutes before we received water; waitress left in the middle of ordering and threw the check down before we had an opportunity to order dessert – we won’t be going back.Do not recommend this place since there’s tons of better options in Charlottesville.
Fun & great food!. Always a fun place to go on a date or with a group. This is place is so booked for Valentines today too. If you don’t want to pay a little less the sushi bar is nice too great service!
Expensive and lacks taste. Go to the Flaming Wok instead.
Pretty Good for Charlottesville. Overall, this place was a great change from the usual TGI Fridays and Chilis that Charlottesville has to offer. It’s very similar in style, menu, and flavor to Samurai and Benihana, two restaurants that I really missed coming to Charlottesville. We were seated immediately, but it took WAY too long for the waitress to take our orders and bring drinks – about 20 minutes before our orders were taken, another 10 minutes before we had drinks, and then about another 10-15 minutes before we got soup (the first course). Everything went at a normal pace after that, especially when the cook arrived at our table. The soup and sauces weren’t quite as good as at Samurai and Benihana (they seemed a little watered down), the shrimp was a tad overcooked, and the fried rice was slightly undercooked – but overall, not bad. I went with several friends and between us we had the shrimp, filet mignon, scallops, and chicken as entrees, and shrimp, mushrooms, and chicken liver for appetizers. We were all satisfied with our orders, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience (the cooks do all the same tricks as the ones at Samurai and Benihana – flicking shrimp tails, making onion volcanos, etc.). Also, if you go on Sakura’s website, there are usually coupons that you can print out and take to the restaurant that make it a bit more affordable. Ultimately, it was good, not great, but as far as I can tell it’s the only restaurant of its kind in Charlottesville, and I would definitely go back (though I would plan to be there about 30 minutes before I actually want to eat!).
