Wild Mushroom Shrimp & Scallop Risotto. Delighted by the presentation, but the scallops tasted like it has freezer burn… But the quickly replaced it with fresh grilled shrimp!
Terrible. I don’t say this lightly…this was the worst meal I have ever had (and I have eaten at Applebees.) The chicken fingers had no chicken, the yuka fries were undercooked and the chicken fajitas (I mean how do you screw them) contained pink chicken. Was hear 5 years ago and it was great. Must have new ownership. Beer list was good, but eat somewhere else.
I wouldn’t go back here. The food was mediocre at best and over priced for the quality. Definitely would not recommend it.12 Oct, 2014Cinnamon Porkloin With Fruit Chutney. I sent it back. The meat was fatty. The sauce too heavy on the rosemary and bitter. Potatoes had no taste.12 Oct, 2014Cast Iron Seared Swordfish. This was good. A slight fishy after taste. If you don’t like that, you won’t like this; but the sauce wasps nice.
Average at best.. I was very excited to dine at Bilbo Baggins in Alexandria, VA after reading all the reviews. We had to pick someone up from the train station last night and figured it would be a great chance to check it out.Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we had to call 2x to make our reservation later. The gentleman who answered the phone, and later seated us, was accommodating and pleasant. We were seated in the upstairs room, which was very pleasing to the eye. The whole building has a lovely, old feel to it, as do many buildings in this part of town. Beyond the ambiance (and adult beverages) for the most part the enchantment stopped. The service was very odd. We saw little of our server, and when she was at our table, she had no personality or enthusiasm. She barely spoke, and really never checked back after any food was served to see if we needed anything or if the food was ok.As for the food, we started with the crab and andouille dip with potato chips. It came out quickly and was very tasty. I also had a cup of the onion soup. The melted cheese was delicious, as was the crouton, but the broth was kind of weak/watery and tasted more like salty water then the normal, beefy richer version of French onion soup. For entrees, we had the veal piccata which was very tasty, a burger which was very mediocre and a nicoise salad. The veal was really the only decent dish. It is served with mashers and asparagus and was well done. The burger was served on an English muffin and was very very average, as were the fries. The Nicoise salad was a mess. The only redeeming quality was that the dressing was super yummy. The rare tuna had a very odd texture and temperature. It was almost like it had been pre-cooked, then an attempt had been made to reheat it? The tomatoes were about what you’d expect this time of year. The olives were sub-par quality. The anchovies were literally the WORST anchovies I have ever eaten. They were very strongly fishy and had a slimy texture. I normally love anchovies, but these were terrible and they put a whole pile of them on the salad.I had the spiked shire cider for my beverage and it was very well made. One of those drinks were you can’t taste the alcohol but it has a real kick. The beer and wine selection was stellar and they have an interesting list of cocktails. I would certainly consider going back for drinks and apps, but probably not for entrees and my expectations for service would be rather low. Price point is a tad high. Our tab was $94 w/ tax but not tip.
Pizza, fries and beer selection were better than expected based on other reviews but way overpriced. I don’t understand the bilbo theme considering all the Irish pub signs and lame bar knick knacks scattered over the walls
Are you kidding me? It’s called Bilbo Baggins, and celebrating the world of Tolkien, love it!Start at the bar, enjoy the ride.
Came here on a Sunday morning. Great beer selection and the bloody Mary’s were definitely worth the trip. We all got breakfast and everyone was extremely satisfied. Definitely recommend to friends.
