More upscale, I had a prix fixe menu which included a portion of escargot. Most of what I had was pretty good, balancing eye appeal and taste well, but the snails were just slightly bland– it’s not a bad thing compared to other French restaurants in America, but in my experience, it didn’t have the flavor typically found in a restaurant in France.

Incroyable! This is only the second time I have started a review with this word!. The first was in English and for the Fleurie Restaurant! La Bergerie simply put is absurdly good. This French restaurant is on my top ten best bistros ever experienced! The ambience and dcor are superb to the experience, the service above reproach, the wait and service staffs understanding of what is on the menu, interpretation of your culinary desires and professionalism intriguing. Having decided on French cuisine while in Old Town Alexandria and selecting a first time visit to La Bergerie, for a start and through dinner we enjoyed Haut Piquat Wine. Then we went on to dinner with our selection of Fricasse de Champignons Sauvage et sa Sauce au Porto (Cassoulet of Wild Mushrooms with Port Wine Sauce) which was incredible to say the least; also Les Escargot aux Persil, Ail et Beurre (Snails with parsley in garlic butter sauce) this rendition made me a new lover of a well prepared and presented Escargot; Les Cotes de Boeuf au Vin Rouge sur unlit de Polenta and a Burgundy Wine Sauce; Le Steak de Foie de Veau aux Lardons et Echalottes (Calfs Liver Steak served with Shallots and Smoked Applewood Bacon) which for a calf liver lover, was to die for; and ended with desserts of Le Choix de Souffle ~ 1 Raspberry and sipping Grand Marnier and 2 extremely well prepared Cappucinos. Their production and presentation alone was artistic and a culinary extravaganza experience in its presentation was wonderful. The little things they do are what count so much. Making things look easy, but knowing the knowledge needed in their performance enhanced our spectatorship while being served. This is what a fine old style French restaurant is all about. You have to go to La Bergerie and enjoy the fabulous experience as much as we did, in ambiance, presentation and taste to the palate… we will be back soon!

TERRIFIC MEAL. Wonderful s…. TERRIFIC MEAL. Wonderful service in a comfortable elegant dining room. The three course tasting menu had a wide selection of delicious choices. The Flamb lobster was amazing as was my entire meal. Portion size was excellent. Met the owner, a true gentleman who manages this wonderful restaurant extremely well. I will definitely be back.

Disappointing. While Restaurant Week is never really an accurate time to judge a restaurant, regardless, our experience here was pretty disappointing. We were a large party, seated in their private room, which was freezing. The table next to us kept their jackets on. Our food was quality and flavorful, but would have been better had it not all went cold so quickly.Service was fine at first, but once they got busier we were ignored. Had to hunt down our server to take 2nd round of drink orders and for the check. We were surprised to see no gratuity added to the check, after everyone put in their share he ended up with about a 14% tip, which honestly was about right given the slow service. He then proceeded to argue with us that the standard for large parties is 20% and we were stiffing him. If you want 20%, put in on the check, otherwise you get what you get and arguing this with us in front of the remaning tables in the room was bad form.I doubt I would pick this place again.

Wonderful….e. This was a true treat, although a bit pricy for the portions. I had a truly tremendous cold roast corn and crab soup for appetizer. The special of the day was a filet with hollandaise and crab. Delicious. Chocolate mousse to die for.

Wonderful restaurant. La Bergerie is one of the best restaurants I have been to in D.C. in about 2 years. My boyfriend and I chose to do the dinner tasting menu, and it was superb. Many of the items on the menu are prepared or cooked table-side (at one point my boyfriend and I counted about 7 table-side burners operating at once!) and the atmosphere is very relaxing and romantic. Though it is French cuisine, there is a wide array of food to choose from (my boyfriend is a major carnivore and I am definitely not, and we were both completely happy.) I had told them it was my boyfriend’s birthday, but had not requested anything in particular. They brought us champagne to start and a killer chocolate cheesecake with a candle to end. It is pricey, but if you are looking for a fantastic place for a special occasion, you should definitely try La Bergerie.

‘olde alexandra’ watering hole. Traditional ‘french’ restaurant frequented by Alexandria gentry. This is the place to go if you want to see how french food was served years ago.
