I’m from Detroit but my sister lives down the street from this restaurant. I love this place! Everything I’ve ever had us amazing! Burgers are excellent, perfect crispy fries, great appetizers! My faves are chicken souvlaki and cole slaw. Service is always great as well. Since my sister is a regular everyone is always extra extra nice!
We stopped by Metro 29 Diner this week to check it out on the recommendation of friends.Since it was MLK day, they weren’t providing the Lunch menu, but still let us order from it. My daughter had a mushroom and bacon omelette, the husband had a chicken Caesar wrap and I had the chicken souvlaki. We also got an order of French toast for the table since we all wanted to try it.The French toast was the star of the show. It was crispy outside and had a beautiful, custardy consistency inside. A little syrup added just the right among of sweetness, without being cloying. I’d go back just to eat this.My daughters omelette was really disappointing. One of things that I (or my daughter) could have made significantly better at home. The eggs had a grayish color to them and a rubbery consistency. None of enjoyed it.The chicken Caesar wrap was nothing special. Just exactly what you’d expect a chicken Caesar wrap to be. The chicken souvlaki was very tasty. Four generous pieces of white meat chicken (think the breast tenders you get from the grocery store) had a nice seasoning on them, which helped compensate for the chicken being slightly overcooked and a tad dry. The chicken is served on a pita with a side of fries and Greek salad. The Greek salad was very tasty and generously topped with feta cheese. The Greek dressing (served on the side) was an odd pink color, but had outstanding flavor. Fries were hot and crisp. A side of taztziki offset the dryness of the chicken and tied it all together. Our check was $58 before tip, which we felt was a fair value for the large amount of food that was served, and the service was somewhere between adequate and good. I would go back, but my expectations wouldn’t be too high.
Pancakes were good. But, for a place that was deserted at 11:30 pm on a Monday night, service was not good. Order was brought out wrong. Never filled water, forgot my coffee. Only other patrons were a few regulars and two cops. Not Triple D worthy.
Old School Good. A must stop for breakfast (at any time of the day) when I am in Arlington. I have always had great service, very good food, and all in an atmosphere that is a great example of how a diner should be.
Food was good but I was disappointed by the service. Appears regulars get better attention. I’d stop again if nearby but not worth the journey.
Great Breakfast. It’s French toast like I never tasted before! It was soft, fluffy and melts in your mouth. I highly recommend getting it with a side of bacon to offset the generous portion of such a sweet dish especially when drizzled with syrup. I had their corned beef hash which was great but that’s not what will keep me coming back.Don’t judge this place until you try their signature toast wonder or else it would be like judging a pizza joint after eating just the spaghetti.
Get the french toast. No seriously, get the french toast. I never order french toast, but after all the raves, I got it, and it really is the best I have ever had. I would recommend eating one piece (two comes in an order) and getting a protein side, and taking the other piece of french toast home. My husband can’t stop talking about their corned beef hash. He says it’s the best he has ever had. Service is fast and cordial, expect to wait at least 20 minutes on the weekend or sit at the counter.
