By far the best place to eat in Virginia beach area. Amazing food, service, and view. Totally worth every Pennie you’ll spend there. Raw oysters and shrimp po boy I had was outstanding. Great beer selection on tap.
Had the blackened mahi – it was excellent and sitting out in the uncovered patio by the water can’t be beat! Had the black beans and rice and it was seasoned so well.
Chick’s Oyster Bar = Awesome. When you enter Chicks Oyster Bar in Virginia Beach, you are quickly greeted by the aroma of fresh seafood which instantly activates your taste buds. The always polite hostess takes you outside onto the dock and seats you at a table right on the water. Boats travel in and out of the bay with some mooring right by your table as they too stop in for nice meal. The sun starts to fade over the water in the background and ducks by the marsh complete the beautiful scenery. After taking in the scenery, you are eager to look at the menu. Chicks menu has a variety of food. My personal favorite appetizer is the Fried Calamari served with a signature homemade Marinara Sauce($10). The first bite gives you the perfect crunch, and is followed up by chewy, delicious squid inside. The calamari is a great starter to enjoy with friends and family, but with a party of 5 hungry bodies, 2 orders might be the answer. Although Chicks menu has so many great things, one great entree is Todays Fresh Catch with two mouthwatering sides; sweet potato fries and steamed broccoli. Mahi Mahi, Flounder, Tuna, etc. (The price depends on what kind of fish you get.) The seafood you can get fried, grilled, blackened, or bronzed. I prefer it fried, but I have heard extraordinary things about the other options. Another great order would be the Flounder BLT ($13). The flounder is grilled and the bacon, lettuce, and tomato provide ideal companions. This is a must-try for all you traditional BLT fans. My experiences at Chicks have been great and I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal there. I would definitely recommend this to any kind of people and give it 5 stars. You can take a date there, have dinner with your family, or even have a birthday party. A few things can be pricy, but the flawlessly cooked meals are totally worth it. I go anytime I can and it never gets old. Chicks Oyster Bar is not your average beach seafood restaurant, this place is a legit, and it is the best in Virginia Beach.
Special NOT special. Why do my guests always ask to go to this second rate restaurant with a first rate view? I have never been there that the service is not slow slower slowest. I ordered the special 3 Korean tacos with fried plantains for 18 bucks. 67 minutes after I ordered they showed up…2 tacos not 3. The smoked pork was nearly all chunks of pure fat…no meat! The plantains were really bananas. We had to ask for silverware several times. I am always underwhelmed.
Skip it go to bubba’s. Very very average. French fries heated back up in oil. Greasy. Crab legs forget it. Too salty water. Would expect more with their rep.
Great food, not so great service. Came in a few days ago for the first time, since I am always hearing others talk about this place. The food was awesome and the view was even better! Great portions and everything tasted so fresh. The only reason I am giving this place a thumbs down is because of the service. From the moment I walked in, things just felt uninviting. Now I worked in the food service industry all through high school and college, I understand that servers get busy. But when it takes our server 10 minutes to even greet us, somethings up. She was a smaller girl, brown hair, and new I assume. She wasn’t attentive, she was uninformed of the menu, and overall she just seemed like she did not have a clue what was going on. Hopefully this was just a hit/miss type situation, and that Chick’s does actually take the time to properly train their summer employees. Because of the view and the food, I will definitely be back next time I am in the area, but I will be certain to request I not have that server again.
As a local, was pretty good. Overlooked crablegs, but still tastey! Red Neck oysters with pimento cheese and collards was AMAZING. Hush puppies and fresh green beans were good as well! We will return and recommend. Service was a little lax.
