Been here a few times for trivia, which is OK, but they fall apart for sporting events. I’m here for US/FIFA – there’s one server. This happened for the NBA finals – if I can’t get timely drinks and food, I’d rather watch from my sofa. The food is alright, happy hour prices are good… but 30 mins for every refill and 30 mins to get your card back isn’t worth it.
Lunch Has Improved Greatly.. Baxter’s used to be a regular lunch spot but we don’t get over there as much as we used to. Around the turn of the year Baxter’s introduced a new menu. Many of the items changed and some long time favorites are gone. Portions are also smaller and of course prices are higher on the regular entree’s.However one thing they’ve been trying out is a faster lunch deal for $3 (not counting drink). For example Wednesdays (today) is Burger Day and they say they offer a 1/2 lb burger for $3. I wouldn’t say it’s a half pound but it’s decent an the price is excellent. Tuesday’s they offer a Buffalo Chicken Wrap or Grilled Chicken Wrap. The wrap is excellent. On Thurs they’re doing pizza from Chicho’s and on Friday they have Crab Cakes which I’ve heard are pretty good.I’ve noticed there’s a pretty high employee turnover during the lunch period. Sometimes service is great, other times not so much. Another thing I’ve noticed is sometimes we’ll go by there for lunch and find the place closed for a private party, which can be frustrating. All in all it’s a mixed bag but worth checking out if you want some cheap eats at lunch.09 Sep, 2012Good fast lunch.. Baxters is also turning into a regular lunch spot. While primarily a night time club they have an excellent menu and are fairly fast on the lunch hour.On my last visit I had the VIP Club on Sour Dough. This is an excellent club sandwich, it also came with waffle fries. My co-worker had the Fish Taco’s and said they were excellent as well. One of the things I really like about Baxter’s as well is they take pride in their foods presentation. The food always looks as good as it tastes. We always eat right at the bar were service is immediate and we can watch any of about 8 large flat screen TV’s setup there. Usually we’re in and out of here in about 40 minutes. Check them out if you’re downtown. Parking is available on the street right out front.11 Aug, 2012Yes, they’re open for lunch.. If you’re not familiar with Baxter’s it’s located on Granby St right next door to the old downtown post office building. The venue is probably one of the largest on Granby St as well. Upon walking in the front you will see the bar and a ton of flat screen televisions straight ahead, pool tables on the right (with black surfaces) and a part of the lounge restaurant. On the left is a giant open area as well. While more of a night time spot Baxter’s actually opens at 11am daily. We walked over for a late lunch on Thursday and I had a delicious bacon cheeseburger with waffle fries. I do mean delicious! I’m not sure what kind of meat it was, but it was definitely a higher quality burger for sure. Our server, who was also the bartender was on the spot, kept the drinks filled and was very friendly while taking care of us and about 4-5 other people sitting in the bar area. All in all, a good experience all around. Good food, fast service, friendly staff.
Uhh… I dunno what happened in the last few years, but downhill is a huge understatement. Baxters used to be my favorite place in Norfolk a few years back. They had introduced a new menu with delicious food. Now its the exact opposite… my fish sandwich was clearly a frozen piece of fish, and seemed to have been microwaved. Even worse, I had to send it back, because the whole sandwich tasted like a hamburger; the bun was apparently toasted on the same part of the flattop as the meat. Cross contamination. Service was extremely slow, its evident that people drinking large amounts are provided with all the service. Getting a refill on soda took 10 minutes. Like she was personally carbonating the soda or something. I won’t be back, unless it changes owners, yet again. Sure hope it does!
