I ordered the Meatloaf dinner with Collard Greens and Green Beans. The food was delicious! The Meatloaf was full of meaty flavor and was covered with rich tasting brown gravy and onions. I was disappointed because they were out of many of the foods I wanted to taste which I think really test the quality of soul food cooking like Yams, Cabbage and Cornbread. The decor is non-existing and most people order to go anyway. My brother ordered a Fish Sandwich and fries. The fish came on two slices of white bread and the fries are the typical frozen variety. He was not impressed. My desert was the only one they had prepared, Strawberry Cake, even though there were more on the menu. Every bite was filled with Strawberry flavor and it appeared to have had real berries in the mix. The cook/owner was very knowledgeable of her food and was very friendly. I recommend you give a try on a takeout bases.

GREAT LUNCH!!!. Went to Carlos’ for lunch 04/3. All I can say is this was the first time of many! The food was OUTSTANDING! I am partial to smothered pork chops and they were some of the best I have had! My co-worker had the fish sandwich lunch combo and also gave it high praise. The ladies there were very friendly and appreciated our business. We will certainly be back,and will tell all who will listen that it is the spot for soul food in Norfolk!
Bitter sweet. The food they serve is great and always fresh but when you make your order over the phone they are rude and if you go to the establishment you dont get a friendly atmospher so if that doesnt bother you this is the place for some good home cooking
Amazing. Me and my girlfriend are from south Louisiana. Food is of utmost importance to us down there. Since moving up here we have been searching for good plate lunch food. And we have now found it. Simple meals, with simple sides, quick, but perfect. It’s a tad off putting walking inside, there is no decor to speak of, and not really a place you eat at, but that’s the types of places you get the best food at back home. And here is no exception. Don’t let that sway you though. The very best food I’ve had since I’ve lived here. We will be going back weekly.
Excellent Food! REAL DOWN HOME COOKING. I went to Carlos Homecooking to get lunch for myself, boyfriend, and co-workers. I ordered the pork chops, my bf the turkey wings, and my co-workers the ribs. When I tell you I felt like I was sitting in my grandma’s kitchen, it was unbelievable good! They definitely have a repeat customer in me! If you’re looking for real southern cooking, greasy spoon, make you wanna slap somebody good eating, then you gotta get yourself over to Carlos’ Homecooking!
