Excellent!. I was a little leary of trying this place since I’m not a big fan of seafood. When I made my reservation I was assured there would be at least one meat and pasta fish. Luckily they had a tenderloin that night and it didn’t disappoint. You can taste the difference in the freshness of everything. The apps were great, the desert the perfect portion. My wife and I both cleaned or plates. I’d like to see a few more varieties of beer, but with every penny. Well be back!!
Class Act. We were a party of 6 attending a concert downtown and called for early availability. They staff told us they could accommodate us but we had be out by 7:15 so they could honor a previous reservation. We never felt rushed and had one of the best meals served in the area in quite sometime. Every dish from the beef tartare appetizer to the pasta with oyster mushrooms were wonderfully prepared and beautify presented. Combine that with a local farm to table concept, a small intimate setting, great service and delicious food is a winning combination.
Exceptional. Food done right.. As a chef I am constantly disappointed and finding something I would change about food. We were in town for a Modest Mouse show on my birthday and I heard some great things about this place. Everything was delicious. Well seasoned and prepared with love. Great healthy food. You can tell when somewhere is driven by their love for food and this place has it!They also printed personalized menus for us with a happy birthday to me at the top. Very accomodating and great service.
Excellent. My husband and I went a couple weeks ago and I cannot wait to go back. The atmosphere was nice and the food was delicious. All the food was seasonal and fresh and the flavors were very well balanced. The only drawback was that the chairs are designed for small people and are very uncomfortable for plus sized folks. But the great meal distracted us and we really enjoyed our evening.
Nothing on the plate. There was nothing on the plate; everything was on the bill. Cold fish too.
Can it be that perfect?!. I went here a few weeks back with a friend of mine who had discovered this gem through a co-worker. I didn’t even know Chartreuse Bistro existed, but the concept of a sustainable, organic restaurant with an ever-changing menu had my interest piqued to say the least. I consider myself a foodies, i.e. I enjoy eclectic foods and restaurants which offer variety and creative dishes. Chartreuse did not disappoint on either account. As soon as we walked in, I was greeted by an extremely friendly hostess, as I took in the soothing ambiance. I HIGHLY recommend making reservations as the place was filled (a sign of a great restaurant). After taking our seats, my friend ordered a seared tuna appetizer while I settled for the rosemary lamb sausage. Oh. My. Gosh. The dishes were perfect – I wouldn’t change a single thing about them. The seasoning, temperature, and display were enough for me to considering just ordering another dish of both as my entree, but the rest of the menu was too enticing. Let me just say that if ever you get the chance, if there is lamb sausage on the menu definitely go ahead and order it. I also ordered a glass of wine – a zinfandel if I remember correctly, which the waitress had suggested. She even let me try a sweet sherry, and let me tell you, that stuff was divine. It tasted like figs and dates mixed with a bit of caramel. Too heavy to drink with dinner, but next time I go I’ll order that with dessert. My entree (as well as my friend’s) was the seared scallops with butternut squash and fennel, and even had some more sausage mixed in. I don’t know how they managed to get such a perfect sear on the scallops, but they did and those were some of the sweetest, most tender U-10s I had ever tried. Quite a generous portion, too. The sausage, squash and fennel paired perfectly, with the sausage providing a savory heat in contrast with the scallops. Again, the food was served HOT, which is a huge concern of mine when I eat out. Many places serve luke warm food, but not Chartreuse. Everything must get to the table within a minute or two of being cooked, which is great.I highly recommend Chartreuse Bistro. I can’t wait to try lunch there, and hopefully their Sunday brunch (which is coming soon I have heard) will be just as delicious. What a wonderful addition to the Norfolk restaurant scene.
