  • We paid $28 for 3 pastries!!! They were good but not $28 good. The place is kind of a hole in the wall and the owner said its been there for 100 years…

  • What a joke. This place is a total joke. Don't care if the pastrami is better than sex, dude tried to charge me $7 for a cappuccino that wasn't actual…

  • Beware. I went on a Sunday around 3 pm. My friend and I got a pastrami sandwich and a chicken salad sandwich. I found it odd that there were no prices…

Nope.. My first clue to run the other way should have been the nasty smell that hit me when my friend and I walked in, but alas, we stayed. I ordered the pastrami sandwich which I thought was sub-par and increadibly slimy, my bun was soaked. The owner kept hassling us to buy more (desserts and such) and made the experience very uncomfortable. When all was said and done with our lunch for two was $50. Ridiculous. We could have gone out to a nice restaurant for dinner for that price. Don’t go here.

Great family owned restaurant with a lot of history. The owners were very friendly and the environment was quaint and laid back. They’ve been open for 101 years and take great pride in their food. The pastrami sandwich is out of this world! It was full of flavor and juicy, not dry like most other pastrami sandwiches I’ve had at many delis. Their desserts and pastries are kinds you can’t just find anywhere. They even have chocolate covered bacon ;). When looking for a quaint and laid back old school deli, I would definitely recommend trying this place out!

Stale pastries that left a waxy coating on inside of our mouths, plus the guy told me three times to buy more and just put it on my card when I said no thanks, just brought some cash, he kept on pressuring us.

Do NOT go to this bakery!!!!!!1. It is not a FRENCH bakery like the title of their restaurant claims2. The prices are WAY too high! If you notice, there are no prices listed anywhere in the store for the bakery items. It’s definitely not worth the price you pay. 3. The owners of the stores are thieves! They keep hastling you to buy more. All we wanted was a sandwich and a pastry and they kept pressuring us to buy more. It was very uncomfortable and not how you treat paying customers. I will NEVER go back!!!!!!!

Experience The French Bakery. The Pastrami sandwich is unique and awesome. Youre not going to find this one anywhere else! Every now and then I get the medium Roast Pork on the soft bread. The pork roast is cooked there in the back, not pre-packaged; if you get the small sandwich youll be sorry unless youre saving room for one of the REAL CUSTARD filled clairs. Now if you want Seafood, split a Large with a friend and grab a couple of Brews from the Antique Coke Cooler. Thats where George hides them; you wont be sorry. Another of the sandwiches I enjoy is the Scallop Sandwich, on the soft bread; Eli is the one who turned me on to this little GEM. Yum! Occasionally I pickup a Bakers Dozen of the Small Soft Rolls for my flank steak sandwiches, when Ive got friends coming over for a cook out. Someone else mentioned their Orange Donuts. I got it on good authority Homer Simpson is a fan too. If youre looking for good Baklava, look no farther! You will find a lot of hidden treasures in those display cases. Christmas is coming which means their Award Winning Fruit Cake should be making a seasonal appearance soon.I dont get by the Bakery for a one of a kind sandwich as often as I did years ago, and to exchange friendly barbs with George or play a game of Backgammon with Eli. So the next time youre in the Riverview section of Norfolk, experience The French Bakery. Their prices may seem high but these Sandwiches are worth it! P.S. Ask George if today is the day is the day of BOGO? LOLOL!RWE

The food is above average but the prices are WAAAAY too high. My husband and I each got a small sandwich, chips, bottled soda & a dessert and we spent over $40!!! How have these guys not priced themselves out of business?! I’m all for supporting local business but we will not be returning.

I went in there with my toddler and baby looking for a French Bakery where they, you know, baked stuff. I was very disappointed. But I saw they had eclair and got a medium sized one, a ginger cookie for my toddler, and a bottle of water. My bill came out ton$15!! Then he tried to pressure me into buying more with to make the bill twenty so I could use my card. This was after he asked if we lived in Ghent. It seems he’s done this trick before. Turns out Im in Ghent all the time. They should be ashamed of their business practices.
