Hail to the King. No other brewer in Norfolk could have pulled off the block party that was Smartmouth’s 1 Year Anniversary bash yesterday. The entire event was well planned and coordinated with plenty to do for the entire family. There were tours of the brewery, at least 3 different food vendors serving oven fresh pizza, Filipino food, and I noticed a cup cake truck had arrived by the time I was leaving. Also I saw at least 4 corn hole setups around the party area which had a band and there were plenty of family’s with and without kids having a good time. It was also dog friendly with a bunch of our 4 legged friends hanging out too.Needless to say there was beer, and plenty of it. Smartmouth also launched a new beer yesterday called called Live & Let Rye which was a Imperial Black IPA.I can’t say it enough, Smartmouth has really set the benchmark for Hamptonroads brewers and it’s a high one indeed.13 Oct, 2013The Best Brewery In Hamptonroads.. Finally I made it to Smartmouth’s Brewery Friday evening with some co-workers and what a great experience it was. Let me just say that if you haven’t been here, you’re in for a treat. The entire place from the tasting area to the brewing area is a show room. It’s impeccably styled in very modern concrete, glass and steel combination with a splash of local artwork on the walls. Even if you’re not taking the hourly tour on the weekends you can fully see into the brewery area and take a look at the impressive equipment used to make their beers. The beer sampled was many… I started with my favorite the Alter Ego Saison, and from their moved over to their new brew Bedeviled which is a Belgian beer. After that I sampled the Uber Hefe which is, you guessed it, a hefeweizen. From there I choose a Murphy’s Law amber ale and finally closed out the evening with an Alter Ego before we called it an evening.Early in the visit we were able to chat up with one of the brewers who took us into the brewery and showed us the tanks and gave us a quick mini tour. I didn’t catch his name but I have to say it was readily apparent that he loves what he does for a living and was very enthusiastic about brewing. The staff there was super friendly and we had a great time. If you’re a beer enthusiast make sure you put Smartmouth Brewery on your short list and go check them out.
