Loved it! Surprised by the negative reviews because I found the service fast and friendly. Food was excellent, cocktails interesting. Looking forward to returning on a day when the weather will allow patio seating.
This place has been open for months and yet everyone except our server (Adrian?) seems to be confused. The food is good, the patio wonderful, but everything else seemed to be a new restaurant.
Wanted to like! Lovely dec…. Wanted to like! Lovely decor. Amazing bar top and unique light fixtures. Too bad the hush puppies were overcooked. The honey butter was delicious. I honestly expected drop type hush puppies, that I have had at southern weddings that came out of a Gatling gun dispenser that deposited the Hush puppy batter directly into the hot oil. But these were perfectly round balls of dough that were too hard fried to enjoy the flavor. Which was savory not sweet. Another negative. The fried green tomatoes were fine as were the fried oysters. An ample portion for an appetizer. The slaw was again not sweet or vinegar —just nondescript and rather dry. Cornbread was sweet and crumbly. Brunswick stew too thick, but tasty. Cute touch to have napkins tied with twine and to serve the bill in a milk bottle. Need to add meatloaf w red gravy to lunch menu.
Slow service, mediocre food. We were very excited to try Supper! We arrived and sat at the bar while we waited for a table. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. However ambiance was not enough to make up for the really slow service and bland food. Once we were seated we waited and waited and waited for a server. We had to flag someone down to get a server to take our order. Then we waited for at least 30 minutes for more cocktails. The food followed shortly after the drinks arrived. The food was ok.. Nothing I would ever want to order again. Fried green tomatoes were heavily breaded and lacked flavor. The grilled corn was nothing special and the biscuits were really dry. The shrimp and grits were bland as well and the shrimp was over cooked. Based on the lack of service and bland food I probably won’t go back except for drinks at the bar.
Hit or miss on the food but the drinks and rooftop bar are worth a visit. I’ve been to Supper twice now – once right after it opened and then a couple weeks later. The first time service was a little spotty, but that was to be expected and we didn’t mind because the food was delicious and the pre-dinner cocktails were creative, fun, and effective. The second time we took some friends and the food was okay, but not for what it costs – even the same dishes we ordered last time weren’t nearly as good. Again, the setting is beautiful, but I think we’ll stick to cocktails and appetizers in the future.
This place completely and utterly disappointed. We love the still in Portsmouth and thought that because they were owned by the same people that the experience would be compreable. We were wrong! The apps we ordered took 45 min. Our drinks took 30 min. Our waitress was completely aloof of it all and let our empty glasses sit on the edge of the table for 15+ min after it had taken literally 30 min to get the first round. It got so bad that another waitress noticed the fact that our waitress was being such a bum, that she came by and apologized for the terrible service. The manger then came out and apologized for everything. The food was good but no where near good enogh to justify having to put up with such crappy service. Over all I would have to say that it will be a very very long time before we go back. They obviously even after a two months of being open for business have not worked out any of their kinks we had heard about and had stayed away for. My advice stay away until you hear they are actually working like a restraint should.
Yikes. Yikes. Yikes. I hope the nightmare we experienced was due to newness. Otherwise, this restaurant will soon be called the last supper.
