This is a great hidden treasure in Norfolk. This is some good down home cooking with large portions and Southern flair and seasoning. The price is modest but like any cafeteria type restaurant, it depends on what you choose and how much you buy. There is no written menu but your server will tell you what dishes are available for that day. Offerings change every day.A typical meal is an entree (like, fried chicken, pork chops, salmon patties, chitlins, Salisbury steaks), two country seasoned vegetables (from a selection of 3 or 4), bread, and a beverage. You can choose from one or more deserts but that cost extra (I had lemon pound cake). The dining room is roomy, clean and bright. The staff are not waiters but all were friendly and assisted with meal choices and procedures. This is a great and unique Norfolk Experience. They serve breakfast only on Sunday. Arrive early for lunch to get it hot!
Some of the Best Soul Food I’ve Had. I found this place on the Internet and thought it looked interesting, so I went there one my one visit to Norfolk. It was so good that I had to eat there twice. This place has some of the best soul food I’ve had, and it’s in the kitchen attachment to a church. The turkey leg was one of the best I’ve had. Prices are modest, portions are big, and everything is delicious. My experience at their dining room was so good that, on a visit to Savannah, I tried out the United House of Prayer kitchen there. It was also good, but not as good as my experience at the kitchen in Norfolk.
