Had the chance to sample the many menu items last night with a large party of ten. Five couples in all. We had reservations, arriving on time, were seated promptly, waitress was quick to the table to explain the specials and substitution for the evening and took our drink orders. In short order returned w/ libations proceeded to get our orders. The first course was delivered in good time and was quite delicious! Once the empty plates removed we proceeded to anticipate, with excitement, our main menu choices. Almost 1 hour later, after numerous water glass refills, no new requests for drink refills or bread offers, did we wait, and wait, and wait. When we finally did get our food, the portions were either over cooked, extremely small and cool to the touch. No dish was hot. The is not to say the flavors were not there, the Chef shows culinary expertise, however the kitchen staff and the wait staff are a non-supporting cast in what otherwise could potentially be an award winning corner in Norfolk.

Not worth it. The food was good, not great. There are other review about the desert being amazing and that much is true. The service was so slow it become a running joke at our table. While the waitress was very polite, there was not enough traffic through that restaurant for her to take as long as she did. The wait between courses felt like forever. And we waited at least 30 minutes after all plates were cleared for our check. Also, my beef was over cooked, which is a cardinal sin for me. I would have sent it back, but I’m not convinced it would have come before closing time.

Good restaurant. Amazing view. Our first visit to the restaurant was for Norfolk’s Restaurant Week. From the limited menu we chose the pumpkin soup and Caesar salad for first courses. The pumpkin soup is amazing, with just enough sweetness brought on by the cinnamon croutons. The Caesar salad was just a Caesar salad.Main courses consisted of the steak rounds and flounder. The steak was good, but the flounder was amazing, served with a lemony, wine sauce. Yum.Desserts were also excellent. Vintage Kitchen serves a double drunk bread pudding that is some of the best I’ve ever eaten. And the chocolate parfait was also heavenly.

Never again…. My wife and I were very excited to visit Vintage Kitchen but left hungrier than when we had arrived. We went for restaurant week 2012 and thought it would be a great opportunity to try out a new place. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation to an empty restaurant and yet the hostess couldn’t seat us for 5-10 minutes (not a big deal, we were early; a little confused when the restaurant was empty but hey whatever…). We were seated and a waitress stopped by to take our drink orders. We both ordered a glass of wine. The wine arrived and I have seen more wine given in a tasting than this. We quickly drank our wine and when offered another glass later we both declined, no way were we going to pay $8 per glass for one more sip.We ordered shortly after the wine arrived. Lets go over my wife’s order first. She had the Tomato soup, Mac n’Cheese, and Salted Caramel Parfait. The tomato soup was good, not amazing but good. It had a too much cream for our tastes but this is purely a preference and your tastes may differ. The Mac and Cheese arrived about a half hour after she finished her first course, it came out piping hot. She took a bite and instantly said it was too salty and watered down. I was blown away…my wife loves salty things! I took a bite and could not agree with her more. We did not finish the mac and cheese. The parfait arrived another half our after her entree, it was good, again not amazing but good, no complaints on the parfait. Now my meal…I ordered the Caesar salad, beef tenderloin, and parfait. The caesar salad was alright, it had a lot of things going on (spicy chiles, something sweet, some mint, crispy parmesan, all these things taste great but in combination it becomes too much and muddled). A half hour later the beef tenderloin arrived. While my wife’s mac and cheese was piping hot, the beef was stone cold. Apparently the beef was waiting for the noodles to be ready? It was a good steak but since it was cold it was more like eating a left over steak from the night before. I would have sent it back…but our waitress was no where to be seen. Not once did she stop by to see how we were enjoying our meal. She took our wine order, delivered the wine, took our dinner order and delivered dinner. Not exactly earning her tip. I ordered the parfait as well and addressed it in the prior paragraph, no need to cover it again. The Vintage Kitchen…perhaps the chef is too busy running his new restaurant in Richmond, but either way I will not be back to try this place again. I normally tip at least 15% and with an average being 20-25%. I tipped $5.00 on a $76.00 (before tax) meal. I wrote a note on the receipt (I have never done that before, but I had too because I felt terrible tipping so little). I just could not believe how expensive this was for such a lackluster, if not lousy, meal. It is too expensive to try again when there are so many better options available in Norfolk. I don’t mind paying $100 plus for dinner for two but a restaurant doesn’t get more than one chance at that price to earn repeat business. So many things I did not list in this review…here it goes-Tiny portions (I can deal with this if it truly is fine dining and makes up in taste what it lacks in size)-Waitress grabbing the wine menu out from under my elbow to read it to me (I am quite capable of reading, why was this needed)-Tables for two placed in front of a pillar by the windows-Waitress serving from the left (I normally don’t care but she basically elbowed me out of the way in order to place the plate on the table)-There were others but you get the idea…save your hard earned money for a place deserving of your business

Indifferent. Food’s good, drinks (Coke in particular) are beyond expensive, but overall, it’s not bad, but not good….would I go back? Yes, but for dinner (went for lunch)….

Wonderful. We went for Valentine’s Day, and they made a special Aphrodisiac menu. We were a bit skeptical at first, but it turned out to be the best meal that we’ve had in a long time. The owner/chef waited on us, and very carefully explained every course to us. The ambiance was fantasatic, as was the view. We are definitely going back, and this is teh first time I was impressed enough by a restaurant to write a review.

Food was good not great. I wasn’t blown away. Wouldn’t say it’s worth the price. Nice view and pleasant ambiance. Service was mediocre and staff wasn’t as friendly as should be expected. Apparently restaurant week really threw the whole place for a loop. Not a good excuse. We waited too long for service and food – an hour to get apps and salads that night.
